To have told my in-laws that they’ll have what they’re given and like it?

GoJetterGirl · 08/01/2021 15:43

Right,

So, talking with in-laws On FaceTime who are in the age category for the first round of Covid vaccinations... and convo went like this...

DH- have you heard about vaccinations yet?
FIL- Not yet, but when they call I’ll tell them it must be the Oxford one as I don’t want a foreign vaccine!
DH- I don’t think you get a choice...
MIL- They will for your father dear, he can be quite insistent...
DH- Confused
ME- ummm, no, you’ll be offered a vaccine, you among millions are waiting for these vaccines and you think you have the right to be picky?! You’ll take what they offer you and like it! Angry
MIL- promptly bursts into tears “why is she being mean to meeeeeeee”

DH thinks I’m being unreasonable as I’ve had enough of his rule flouting, idiotic, entitled. argumentative parents and I’ve finally snapped and put them in their place...

(Those of you who followed my sons journey will
Understand my snappy attitude towards them)

Ps- the daily mail and any journos can piss off too....

@Swissypup

This isn't a thread about a MIL. It's a thread about the profound loss of a child. I'm so sorry OP. There are no words. 💐 Let your DH deal with the in-laws as perhaps they are an important part of his grieving. God bless.
Well I didn't know that. The original message didn't mention it

Do I know you in RL? You described a local landmark for me...
I don't know you in RL. I would remember if a friend had had such a horrible time.

I am not far away from you. Couldn't quite spit on the hospital from where I live but not far off.

I knew you would recognise it, is why I wrote it in there. Just trying to cheer you up, although I know it would only be for a few moments, at the thought of TIL treading water till help arrived or they found the ladder. That's why I said full lock, an empty one would end them, I am not actually psychotic.

Swissypup · 08/01/2021 21:06

This is a deeply grieving woman folks who has lost a very young child in terrible circumstances. This one needs a trigger warning @MNHQ if only to save the OP from some insensitive posts. Honestly don't read the the previous threads unless you're in a very good place. I'm so sorry OP. Tell us about him if you like. The MIL is neither here nor there.

Possibly dont be a dick as default and you wont have these issue, claire.

ElD22 · 08/01/2021 21:32

Sounds familiar. I wish someone told me about in-laws before I got married

I'm so sorry about your loss, OP.

Might be worth asking for this thread to be removed, because the original post reads very differently with/without context.

Boysarebackintown · 08/01/2021 21:57

@SnottyLottie

I work in a hospital and have to ask anyone over 80 who comes in whether they’ve had the vaccine yet and if not would they like to get it after their appointment has finished.

The amount of them who have refused it because it was the Pfizer instead of the Oxford has been staggering. And when pressed, they have said they would prefer to wait for the British vaccine even if it means having to wait longer (one even referred to Pfizer as “dirty foreign”). I have to bite my tongue and respect their wishes but in my head all I’m thinking is “it’s your funeral, I hope you don’t catch it and die whilst your waiting for your British vaccine” 😔

Slightly to derail. That is shocking and these people should be at the end of the queue, if they get it at all.

@FreshFreesias

You sound hard work OP.
Nothing could be further from the truth.

As a reading of this thread might indicate

LouiseTrees · 08/01/2021 22:00

Tell your DH to inform them that the lead scientist for the Oxford/Astra Zeneca vaccine, French. Honestly I hope they don’t get it and are forced to stay in their own home away from your family.

Nanny0gg · 08/01/2021 22:02

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Not read the full thread but YABU. Yes, they're being silly about the vaccine, but you just sound as if you like winding them up and points scoring. And then posting it on here makes you seem rather childish imo.
I know no-one has to read the OP's previous threads, but if you actually read this thread, some of the responses might make you realise why there's a problem.

Or even the OP's own posts might give you a clue...

Nanny0gg · 08/01/2021 22:04

Has anyone, ever asked their GP where a particular medication has come from?

Or have we all just said 'Thank you very much, I hope I'm going to feel better'

It would never, ever have occurred to me to ask.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/01/2021 22:04

NannyOgg - I read only the OP. And then have commented below, when I realised the OP's terrible situation. But asked to make a snap AIBU decision in the OP, I did so.

Tbh there's enough in the OP to make you stop & think imo.
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/01/2021 22:35

Yes - if you knew in advance what to look for, maybe. Leaving the thread now.

If you had even read just Op's posts before you posted...
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/01/2021 22:45

Oh fgs.

Enough.

Boysarebackintown · 08/01/2021 23:15

I’m so sorry for your loss OP. 💐 I wasn’t familiar with your other threads, just had a look. They have treated you very badly, it’s just not worth engaging with them. Just don’t engage, they won’t change.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 08/01/2021 23:18

OP I remember your threads and about your son. The threads around when he passed away were among the most heartbreaking and moving on here. Flowers

Yanbu. There's not really any more to say than that.

Some people just don't know what side their bread is buttered on. There are people who are desperate but won't be able to have the vaccines at all for health reasons, I have no patience for anyone being picky for stupid reasons.

Yes, that’s me, still missing him so so much, waiting on my Woolley hug to arrive, progress on it looks fantastic and it’s been so helpful to reread the hand hold and candle light threads when I’m really missing him, I periodically sit with his ashes and read to him and just talk, I’m slowly learning to cope, but I feeL so so lost
@GoJetterGirl I'm glad that you have found some comfort, I have often thought about you.

Tell your in-laws they are selfish fucks and unless they have medical reasons (aka certain allergies) they can absolutely and utterly fuck off some more. I've worked at the vaccine hub this week and taken hundreds of phone calls from people who want the jab, so if the ILs don't want their dose there's plenty of people lining up instead.

hashbrownsandwich · 09/01/2021 14:08

@GoJetterGirl I've just read back on your other posts (I was only aware of your handhold etc previously) and OMG these people are vile! I think you've done well to not go NC to be honest!

I'd want to ask them why they prefer to increase the risk of the dirty foreign virus getting into their bodies. What idiots.

What a perfect illustration of how bloody crass this sort of comment is. I hope it demonstrates to others that all that is achieved by it is showing what an idiot the person posting the comment is.
Arobase · 09/01/2021 14:19

@ClaireP20

Well you sound so tightly wound....anyone else would laugh it off. You aren't their parents, speaking to them like shite if you ask me. In fact I strongly suspect your version of events is a little...one sided....
Or, rather than posting what you "strongly suspect", you could check your facts before posting? It really wouldn't take long to look at OP's posts over the past year.
Arobase · 09/01/2021 14:21

OP, am I right in thinking you're pregnant? If so, your DH really needs to cut down on contact. I shudder to think what his parents will be like when the baby is born.

Zoecarter · 09/01/2021 15:18

I often think of you. I 100% don’t blame you they sound like entitled insert swear word sending you loads of love and well done for standing up for your self x
