To have told my in-laws that they’ll have what they’re given and like it?

Right,

So, talking with in-laws On FaceTime who are in the age category for the first round of Covid vaccinations... and convo went like this...

DH- have you heard about vaccinations yet?
FIL- Not yet, but when they call I’ll tell them it must be the Oxford one as I don’t want a foreign vaccine!
DH- I don’t think you get a choice...
MIL- They will for your father dear, he can be quite insistent...
DH- Confused
ME- ummm, no, you’ll be offered a vaccine, you among millions are waiting for these vaccines and you think you have the right to be picky?! You’ll take what they offer you and like it! Angry
MIL- promptly bursts into tears “why is she being mean to meeeeeeee”

DH thinks I’m being unreasonable as I’ve had enough of his rule flouting, idiotic, entitled. argumentative parents and I’ve finally snapped and put them in their place...

(Those of you who followed my sons journey will
Understand my snappy attitude towards them)

Ps- the daily mail and any journos can piss off too....

Posters who make snide comments on this thread are sick in the head. A very quick search of threads started by OP will explain what she has been through

baffledcoconut · 08/01/2021 17:43

They are still twats.

As a total aside. We still play with the go jetters set and my little girl talks about the ‘little boy who has the same go jetters as me’ I hope you’re doing well xx

sueelleker · 08/01/2021 17:44

@growinggreyer

But it is the patient's right to choose what is put into their body - or do you no longer believe in consent and bodily autonomy? Everyone can choose whether they want this vaccination or whether they want to wait.
You can choose to have the vaccine or not, but you don't get to choose which brand. I can't imagine vaccination centres are sent different brands just in case someone fancies a different one.

@FlibbertyGiblets

Oh gosh sorry, we're meant to know every detail of your life, as documented in detail on MN, what a failure I am. Apologies.
She lost a child so it sort of is relevant to having more emotional reactions to people's decisions related to health and I didn't know that the PiL made everything harder but that is relevant too.

Gojetter- I really think your MiL should understand what you're going through and know not to react so much.

BloggersBlog · 08/01/2021 17:46

I was with you 100% until the end line

Ps- the daily mail and any journos can piss off too

Why do people do this? Do you REALLY think the DM will look at a thread and then say "oh no, OP hates us, we cant possibly steal this for our paper now" such a daft thing to write Hmm

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 08/01/2021 17:46

You are right to put them in their place, if they want to pick and choose what vaccine they have instead of simply being grateful that one has been developed, why don't they wait until everyone else who doesn't care and just wants the vaccine has had theirs, then they can choose. In the meantime they can wear a mask, follow the rules and try not to die if they get the virus.

TillyTopper · 08/01/2021 17:47

I think you need to handle them differently to save yourself some stress. You can't control how they are - you can only control your reaction to them. I'd just say "Oh yes good idea!" And leave it at that. Just focus on a quick exit from the convo with a smile. Life becomes so much easier than picking an argument!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 08/01/2021 17:47

I’m frontline and got my Pfizer vaccine this week. I’d advise those offered to take the vaccine. Potential Contraindications are severe allergic reaction eg anaphylaxis and individuals with risk factors would be screened and deemed not to be suitable

Sarahandco · 08/01/2021 17:48

I would have just said ok then.

mineofuselessinformation · 08/01/2021 17:49

OP, I really recommend that if you can hear any kind of call, you shout FUCK OFF as loud as you can, over and over, until they're out of range again....

ineedaholidaynow · 08/01/2021 17:49

And the OP has mentioned in this thread (as have others) that the PIL were awful to her whilst her little boy was so poorly and even upset her when planning his funeral.

It doesn’t take a genius to work out that these are not your run of the mill in-laws

OverTheRainbow88 · 08/01/2021 17:50

Well It is their body, so it is their choice

Like lots of parents who decide to split up the MMR vaccine for their babies

user1471538283 · 08/01/2021 17:51

Wow! They think they get to choose a free vaccine? Unbelievable. They are in for a shock then...

Really? You'd stop offering the OP support because of a perfectly reasonable request? She might know they wouldn't take any notice, she might not think either way but just wanted to say it.

Daft? You're more unkind than the Op is daft.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 08/01/2021 17:54

Yes but it’s not a buffet, I’ll have a wee bit Oxford with a side of moderna but none of that forrin muck

ineedaholidaynow · 08/01/2021 17:55

They can’t choose which make of vaccine they get though. DM has had her vaccine we know she had the Pfizer one as the Oxford one hadn’t been approved at the time she had the first. If they are told they are having the Pfizer one and they refuse I can’t imagine the nurse will find an Oxford one to give to them instead. I assume they will have to go back on the waiting list, or possibly even be taken off the waiting list if they refused to have the vaccine

Comefromaway · 08/01/2021 17:55

@MooseBeTimeForSummer

A quick Google suggests the Oxford vaccine is made in India ....
No, it’s being made by Cobra Biologics based on Keele Uni campus.

But that’s beside the point. Even here in Staffs people are being given what they get.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 08/01/2021 17:59

Off topic but I thought the vaccine doesn't stop you from catching Covid. It stops you from reacting to it. Therefore you can be a carrier and pass it on to other people after you have been vaccinated?
In answer to your question, yes I think that we should all be able to express a choice in which vaccine we get. I know of people who have reacted badly to a particular type of flu vaccine so have avoided that brand subsequently. Surely this is a similar situation re choice.

Nanny0gg · 08/01/2021 17:59

@GoJetterGirl

why not just smile and nod, no need to always be known to be right. You know you're right, isn't that enough?

Read my previous threads and you’ll understand why my patience is remarkably short when it comes to these idiots.

Why oh why are you still in touch with them? Vile people. How are you these days?

And if they don't want that vaccine they can pass it this way.

orangenasturtium · 08/01/2021 17:59

Flowers Wine Cake

Your PILs are truly horrible people and racist to boot.

On the other hand, even though I don't support their racist reasoning, I support that it is their choice whether they consent to have the Pfizer vaccine, especially as it is being used off label (not in the way the manufacturer recommends) and if they aren't vaccinated, you have the perfect excuse to keep them away.

Except that's not the reason...
YoniAndGuy · 08/01/2021 18:05

You have every right to keep your child away from them and that's exactly what I would do.

Simply no words about your 'D' H still being in touch with these monsters.

They'll bring no happiness to your son.

GoJetterGirl · 08/01/2021 18:05

Who here remembers the thread about them refusing the Flu vaccine because it made them feel unwell? (Allegedly) but GoJetterBoys consultant insisted they Have it or they would not be allowed to see him? The number of people they told that I was trying to kill them by getting them to take a vaccine they didn’t need... that and the “we’re not unwell, we just have a chill... gah, gives me the rage thinking about how they prioritised their preferences against my beautiful little angels needs to keep him healthy and safe Angry

Our local health centre has said the same as you. You get what you're offered or you don't have one at all.
