Passport application form question

Hiya, I was born and raised in the UK but my parents are from another EU country that considers me automatically a citizen by descent. I had a passport from that country, as a child, but that was over 30 years ago, and I don’t have a passport from that country now.

When renewing my British passport I always put by current nationality/citizenship British. But I was just going over the form and I’ve started to wonder if I should be putting both the British and the other nationality as I guess technically I am dual nationality? Or do I just put British down given that’s the passport I am applying for? I am now worried that I have been filling out the passport application wrong all these times!

Can anyone advise me on this? Thanks

If you’ve always said British before with no problem I imagine it’s fine?

If its a renewal I dont suppose it matters as they would have checked your details when you applied for your first passport

I agree, just put British. The other country can regard you as a citizen or anything else but this has no bearing on how Britain sees your Britishness.

Thanks ladies. And LookBackiningres, you are right, I just didn’t think of it that way before. Even though I have citizenship through direct descent, for this other country, I still have to prove/confirm it as so many years have passed, and I guess that is the confusing and grey area, as I have no documentation to confirm this.

And also, on the application form, it doesn’t specifically ask if you have another nationality, so it’s a bit ambiguous.
