Monzo Accounts

Just to say they are bloody brilliant!

Sorts your salary to how ever many "pots" you need..

So for example

Direct debits
Christmas
Holidays
Spends
Grandchildren

And let's you set "budgets" for shopping, entertainment etc.

You can lock accounts to make sure you don't spend from theM

So much easier than having to move between accounts, it's all done for you, with one click.

Love it!

But it doesn't have a cheque book, just in case you need one.

It also cancels your account without notice so he careful.

JoanneCofton · 03/01/2021 17:42

I love Monzo! So
Good. I really like Starling as well, I actually prefer their app to Monzo

witheringrowan · 03/01/2021 17:44

Is there a way of setting budgets in Starling? I haven't liked some of the ways Monzo is doing business recently, so moved over to Starling, but I'm finding it tougher to track the details of my spending.

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 17:45

Why would they do that? I've money in and money out most days!

Starlings app is very sleek although I've never used Monzo.

Candiscophonous · 03/01/2021 17:49

Monzo is good but never , ever put all your eggs in one basket with them.
And be very careful. I’ve had so many fraud attempts on my monzo account (for small repeated amounts not large) that I now keep the card locked until immediately before I use it. It’s not my primary account luckily.

theblackparade · 03/01/2021 17:51

What an odd thread. Is this an ad for Monzo?

Bagelsandbrie · 03/01/2021 17:51

Have a read of the various posts about Monzo on Facebook. If you search Monzo and go from there. I cancelled my account with them because of all the negative stuff.

reginaphalangeeee · 03/01/2021 17:52

I’ve had monzo for a couple of years and I really like it. But I have seen recently about thousands of accounts that where closed and people had issues getting their money, so it has made me wary unfortunately. I do still use it, but I transfer some money to another account just in case. So far though, I’ve never had a single issue with them and the customer service has always been quick and helpful.

annevonkleve · 03/01/2021 17:55

I have a Starling account and I love it.

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 17:55

ThaMJS for the heads up @Bagelsandbrie ! I'll look!

Nope, just telling people about the "modern" accounts!

We use Monzo but I'm not a big fan of certain things they have done either. May do some Googling and then cancel.

Cherrytreepuddle · 03/01/2021 18:06

I use Monzo for my personal spending and short term savings, I love their pots and the ease of the app. Not sure I'd trust them as my main bank account though

ShalomToYouJackie · 03/01/2021 18:08

I use Monzo and find the pots great, I have one for each bill like water or electricity, split my money into each pot and have the direct debits set to come out each pot. It's great for budgeting.

However, I've found their customer service to be extremely slow and shoddy and I hate that it takes weeks to pay a cheque in as you have to post it to them which I really don't like.

whoamongstus · 03/01/2021 18:08

I love Monzo. I have an account with a trad bank too, but Monzo's app is so much slicker and less clunky than any of the high street banks'.

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 18:08

Will do @twinklespells !

ShalomToYouJackie · 03/01/2021 18:08

Also having the option to get paid a daily early at 4pm is brill

Bookworming · 03/01/2021 18:10

@ShalomToYouJackie isn't it!

I’ve had Monzo for 4-5 years and it’s been my sole bank since they brought out the proper current accounts a few years ago. My husband has it too and we have a joint account. We both use it for absolutely everything. We recently bought our first home and had no problems with getting a mortgage, producing the necessary bank statements etc. I’ve never ever had a fraud attempt or anything dodgy happen either.

Curious as to what people are referring to when they talk about not liking the way Monzo does business?

There are a lot of horror stories about them closing accounts without warning but I am a little sceptical about those to be honest.

Seraphinesupport · 03/01/2021 18:15

I like that I can get my money at 4pm the day before.. helpful

Have you worked in their marketing department long?
BashfulClam · 03/01/2021 18:24

After seeing the bad reviews I won’t touch them. DH has an account but overall we have our money spread out over 4 accounts .
