There is a small gas smell coming from gas meter. Should I contact British gas as they supplier?

It should have a sticker on with a number to call.

Don't mess with any light switches or anything

Gas leaks - what to do and who to contact

Phone Transco 0800 111 999 and open the windows doors etc

There might be a lever on the metre to switch it off. Phone tea sci and open windows. We had this and it was from a leak in the pipe outside

Transco

Call them straight away if you haven't already

A friend contacted B Gas on boxing day because her boiler needed new batteries!! (which she'd guessed was the problem in advance).
Whinged because she was held in a queue rather than answered immediately Hmm

I always think that when it comes to Gas, then just call them. Better to be safe. I was intermittently smelling gas in my kitchen last year, I felt a bit silly calling them as I was 95% sure there wasnt an issue. They arrived with an hour and there was a slow leak from the back of the cooker which explained the intermittent issue. So glad I called them.

If you smell gas, I'd ring them

Turn the gas off by turning the shut off valve off (usually red handle with clear instructions) and call the number given above they will come out very quickly
Open windows too to let the gas out.
