Housemate and I ordered a Chinese earlier tonight from a new place, our usual wasn’t accepting orders.

It’s now 5am, and we’ve both been up being sick- I’ve been vomiting for around an hour and housemate has had both sickness and d since around midnight on/off. We both feel awful- we had the Chinese around 5.30pm and were both fine before this. We’re guessing it’s food poisoning.

No alcohol has been consumed by me, housemate has had two beers. We usually cook our own food separate kitchenettes so this is only meal we’ve both eaten the same.

Anyways, housemate is adamant that they’re going to write a negative review to the restaurant in the morning and maybe mention it on Twitter. I’ve asked them not too, as feel like small businesses are suffering atm, and there aren’t any other bad reviews on justeat etc.

I guess I’m asking a what would you do?

I wouldn’t. You can’t prove you have food poisoning. Chances are this time of year is that it’s norovirus. Hope you’re soon better

AlohaLola · 01/01/2021 05:05

Yeah that’s a good point- hopefully she’ll not write it 😟

Anything she writes needs to be factual. It is not unfair to write that you both ate takeaway from there and from being fine before found yourselves repeatedly vomiting. Would you not want to know that if you were looking for a restaurant? You would be unlikely both to get norovirus symptoms starting at precisely at the same time.

Dita73 · 01/01/2021 05:24

@makingmammaries for people who live together it is actually very common for it to happen with norovirus

I was utterly convinced me and a friend had got food poisoning from KFC once, both poorly the same amoutn of time after eating, both had our children with us yet none of the children were poorly ( they hadn't eaten any). No other cases reported though, no issues with their processes (they were investigated) and so we were told it was likely a bug. I'd discourage your friend, it could very well be coincidence however you could suggest she reports it properly

Mummyoflittledragon · 01/01/2021 05:33

Read this. www.cdc.gov/foodsafety/symptoms.html

With your symptoms it could be the first or 3rd. But equally could be a stomach bug and a big coincidence.

Tempusfudgeit · 01/01/2021 05:42

You can report food hygiene concerns to your Local Authority who will collate and investigate if necessary. It's fairer on the company who would suffer from a possibly unwarranted negative review.

I have just read that link. It's amazing that some food poisoning can start so late after eating the infected food. Weeks in some cases.
