To think this is ridiculous

Best friend has never cut the nails on his right hand because he says it’s not possible? He has always persuaded either partners or friends to do it for him. He has health conditions or impairments that mean he actually can’t do it. I live nearby and he wants me to do it for him. He’s a grown adult in his 50s. AIBU to refuse on the grounds of he really needs to sort this out and not rely on people to do it.

Sorry he has NO health conditions or impairments.

That is very very weird. Yanbu at all.

ConcertinaWorm · 31/12/2020 14:06

That was my thoughts too Grooticle. He manages to make it sound like this is normal but I don’t know anyone else who has no physical, learning or MH issues that need this basic thing doing,

Sheleg · 31/12/2020 14:08

Grubby git. He needs to learn how to do it himself.

tiredybear · 31/12/2020 14:08

well, that can be his normal, if other people have been daft enough to pander to him, but it certainly doesn't have to involve you!

Modestandatinybitsexy · 31/12/2020 14:10

Are you female and he's male? I bet it's only female friends he's asked to help him. If he really can't do it he can pay a manicurist to help him.

ConcertinaWorm · 31/12/2020 14:15

Modestandatinybitsexy. I am female and in the main he has got partners roped in to this. He has got his DB to do it though before now.

tiredybear. Now is a very good time for him to devote to learning to do this.

Tell him to use clippers. And to GTF over himself.

Almostslimjim · 31/12/2020 14:18

He either needs to pay for the service (from a professional) or learn to do it himself!

ConcertinaWorm · 31/12/2020 14:22

Thanks I just needed to hear this is not normal. Even though I can’t imagine anyone else I know asking someone to do it for them!

OP posts:
canigooutyet · 31/12/2020 14:27

Have you asked any questions about why?
I know I would because it's so unusual.
Is there other things he cannot do using his left hand?

Wolfff · 31/12/2020 14:34

My husband cannot use scissors with his left hand but uses clippers instead which are easier to manipulate.

BillysMyBunny · 31/12/2020 14:35

I find it difficult to cut my right fingernails with scissors, but with nail clippers it is easy. He needs to invest in a pair so he can sort it himself.

justlonelystars · 31/12/2020 14:37

I use clippers or a nail file as I cannot for the life of me use scissors to cut my right hand. I’m an otherwise intelligent woman, but I literally have tried countless times and just can’t do it. Would never dream of asking a random friend to cut my nails for me though!

TheRealHousewife · 31/12/2020 14:45

He could use a nail file daily, prevent them getting long in the first place.

ConcertinaWorm · 31/12/2020 14:46

canigooutyet. He just says he can’t do it . With scissors I’m sure a lot of people might struggle but I can’t see what is so mysteriously difficult about using clippers.

OP posts:
ConcertinaWorm · 31/12/2020 14:47

TheRealHousewife. I suggested that but he says it’s a faff. In which case he needs to get some nail scissors and get to work.

Grobagsforever · 31/12/2020 14:47

I've never cut my nails or the DCs. It's not necessary. All our nails are normal length

TheSandman · 31/12/2020 14:49

That is weird. I'm very right-handed and even I can do that.

Pixilicious · 31/12/2020 14:50

@Grobagsforever how??? Do they not grow?

Whenwillow · 31/12/2020 14:53

I use nail clippers, then file mine. Perhaps his mum brought him up to think that someone else needs to do it, so he thinks it's normal.
It really isn't!

MaskingForIt · 31/12/2020 14:59

I bet he gets ASMR from having someone do his nails. Direct him at some manicure ASMR videos on YouTube and he can get his fix that way instead.

GabsAlot · 31/12/2020 15:11

i used to bite my nails so no growth but surely he can use clippers theyre not that hard

knittingaddict · 31/12/2020 15:16

It's more difficult for everyone to use the non dominant hand to cut finger nails, but somehow most of us manage to get by.

WeeDangerousSpike · 31/12/2020 15:16

It's more of a faff for the poor bugger that has to travel to him to cut his nails like he's a toddler. Presumably he's never had someone else ask him to cut their nails so he must realise it's nut a usual thing to do?!
