To think we are so lucky

It’s so cold out tonight. We are all (those of us I assume are all in houses/flats) to have somewhere warm and cozy to sleep. Can’t even imagine what it must be like to be homeless in this weather.

AIBU to ask what more we could do for homeless people in this weather?

Fund support services properly so that homelessness is avoided in the first place - help for mental health issues and addictions, proper support for those leaving government institutions (care, prison, armed forces, home office/immigration services, NHS). Give to charities and services who support homeless people as they know how to spend the money most usefully.

Your very right. I really feel for homeless people. I can’t sleep when my feet are cold, I have no idea how they manage to get any sleep at all.

Our local homeless charity has had to stop taking donations in person due to the new tier restrictions. Instead they have set up an Amazon Wishlist of food and practical items people can purchase that get delivered direct to them and then they take it to the streets. Prices are from a couple of quid upwards. They're a very active group in our city and have a great Facebook page. I can't help them in person as I'm recovering from Covid complications but I can donate via buying stuff on Amazon which is a great idea. I feel so lucky to be recovering in a warm safe home, I never take it for granted, it's so cold out there 🥺
