Help please... Feeding a cat in a cone!

Our lovely Russian blue has been spayed today and is now in a cone for two weeks Sad

She's really struggling to eat. She wants food but won't be hand fed/spoon fed. I've tried holding the bowl for her but she won't come near. She's a very wary cat anyway so now she's worse. She's also a grazer so won't eat a meal at a time.

Any advice at all? How did you feed your cat in cone?

Sorry if I sound silly....but how come she needs a cone, when we had a stray cat on the road, RSPCA came, picked her up and took her to the vets. She was back the day after and released, without a cone.

Do they do the operation differently,?

I have dogs, they don't tolerate cones so we use a body suit (or a t-shirt/vest...he's had some fetching outfits lol) would a body suit be suitable, or take off the cone and supervise.

What about a felt collar? One of mine wore one for a stomach abscess after a fight and had no problems at all.

The vets are covering their backs- I get it. But I wish they’d be a bit more understanding of how difficult it can be rather then immovably sanctimonious about how imperative the cone is!

To be fair in 15 years I've never had a cat I can't collar, or inject with the exception of truly feral cats.

Blood sampling yes - that can require anti-anxiety meds.

I do think experience and training count for a lot and it's likely that we overlook or forget occasionally that things we do routinely are trickier for owners. But that doesn't make us 'immovably sanctimonious' Hmm

Our pup had a Elizabethan blow up collar when she was dressed . She actually liked it so much so she would bark to get it back on even when she didn't need it .
