AIBU for *not* wanting a vestibule extension?

I'm a soon to be first-time father, and first time Mumsnetter (hello everyone!). My wife (DW) has said that we will need somewhere with space for outdoor boots, wellies, jackets etc (we will in Scotland), and thinks that, because we don't have this obvious space, we should consider an extension.

I think that getting a child ready will be challenging, but that it will be challenging in our kitchen/dining room (French doors to garden), and it will be challenging, but with more space, in a vestibule extension.

So, AIBU to assume that having a vestibule style space will not make a huge difference to getting a child ready for going out?

Go easy on me, please!

I had a large enclosed porch built and have never looked back. Somewhere to store coats and shoes, somewhere to have parcels dropped, somewhere to leave brollies to dry with other wet things, somewhere to keep the buggy, somewhere to dry the dog.

And the hall stays tidy and clean.

Worth it for keeping the hall or other parts of the house clean, but it will not solve issues of anyone who is difficult to get ready or cannot be on time.

Why is getting a child ready "challenging"? A large enclosed porch, boot room (or indeed, vestibule) is a useful thing.

Its not a necessity but if you can afford it, it would be good to have!

Depends on the layout of your house. We have a large hallway and internal garage right by the door, so muddy boots go in there and kids get ready on the stairs by the door. It'll be useful I'm sure but not necessary

Depending on house layout, but pushchair wheels get filthy, so if your hall way is carpeted or narrow - a boot room is a godsend, particularly if it's wet too and the rain cover pools any muddy water.

But not an absolute necessity by any means.
