Hospital staff, tell us the reality

I’m am so fed up of seeing people comment on here that schools should be going back, that people should not be reporting mass gatherings in tier 4, how dare people begrudge a child their birthday party etc...

The hospitals are in a worse state now than they were during the first peak. Would any doctors or nurses care to confirm this? Maybe then these Mumsnetters will get the message.

The news is scare mongering at its finest, however if you actually researched it online you’ll find everything you need to know. The media are making it out worse.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/12/2020 14:34

I am hospital staff and it's all lies. ICUs are empty. We are sending staff home.

No. I am not. But that's the problem with asking randoms on internet like this. Anyone can pretend. If you want to hear what hospital staff has to say, there are some reputable looking accounts even on Twitter (long posting history, interaction with actual solid accounts, actual people). News have interviews (though obviously there will always be some bias and chanel aiming to prove x will not interview someone saying y).

Ihateme · 29/12/2020 14:34

I know as I have friends who work on covid wards. I was hoping that some hospital staff in here would share their stories to make ignorant posters realise the gravity of the situation.
I’m not looking at scaremongering. I’m looking at reality.

What news is scare mongering? Where should we research online? I watch BBC news and I don’t find them scaremongering. They interview doctors and nurses all day long if that’s what you are after.
Now is not the time for conspiracy theorists!

alphabetsoup1980 · 29/12/2020 14:36

I think you're possibly looking for a news article for the daily wail 😊

AlwaysCheddar · 29/12/2020 14:37

Op is right to ask. One minute media tells us we’re all going to die then says the next minute that only 371 deaths have been due to Covid with no other prevailing health factors. One person says beds are empty, another sats London nightingale is being used (but it’s closed)... too many ‘stories’.

I’d like to know how many people have died of Covid alone - and none of this in the past 28 days rubbish.

Ihateme · 29/12/2020 14:38

@alphabetsoup1980 if only, at least they’d actually then comment on what’s really happening.

Now is not the time for conspiracy theorists!

We have one local one and people call him Ketamine Ghandi😂 I still can't get over it.
He also told people at the beginning to get sunflower lanyards to claim exemptions from masks (5g!!! Ya know) so that is still a nice name imho...

MrsBlobby43 · 29/12/2020 14:40

My brother works on a covid ward. Couple of weeks ago he had 24 patients in. As of yesterday 168! Not all on ventilation but a good majority.

fiftiesmum · 29/12/2020 14:44

Every winter is very busy but this is continual made worse by the busy spring and early summer.
Getting texts to do extra shifts plus vaccination sessions and working on high risk covid wards involves extra preparation.
Plus doing covid tests on ourselves and patients takes time.
Ambulance crews having to wait to handover patients so cannot get to next call.
So stop bloody moaning about trivia being cancelled and meeting up when it can be done online and we will be out of this mess sooner

ghostyslovesheets · 29/12/2020 14:44

lot's of people wont have died 'of covid alone' like thousands don't die of 'cancer alone' every year - Covid causes other issues that lead to death - surely that's not hard to understand?

As for the news scarmongering and the real news being found on line - just fuck - are people that dim?

grassisjeweled · 29/12/2020 14:45

Can’t you just watch the news?

^

Melania? That you?

Sn0tnose · 29/12/2020 14:45

The news is scare mongering at its finest, however if you actually researched it online you’ll find everything you need to know. The media are making it out worse.

What research have you done? Because I’ve just done a 30 second Google and found a BBC article from November for a hospital in Liverpool where a staff member there has described them as ‘hanging by a thread’. So unless you’re suggesting that the media is misquoting medical staff, or that the NHS stats that are published on line have been falsified, I’m struggling to see how things have been exaggerated.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The main problem is how this has divided everyone.

Can’t you just watch the news? It should tell you all you need to know .

well yes but some peoples opinions are based on facts and others from a David Ike lecture ...
Trollsinthedungeon · 29/12/2020 14:52

My work is sending people home but only because we do cardiac surgery and covid patients are now in our cardiac icu so we can't do the surgery as there are no beds. We are licensed for 5 ecmo patients at one time by nhs England but we have 45 now so that's going to be a mental bill to pay. Weird one of six ecmo centres in the uk and we've been taking patients from Scotland and down south for a few weeks now.

We're lucky though in that we have a lot of ecmo machines and the staff who are trained to deal with them so we can literally make bays and bays of ecmo patients

IndecentFeminist · 29/12/2020 14:53

Our local hospital (very small) is no busier than a normal winter. Is that not the answer your want OP?

Daisysflowers · 29/12/2020 14:53

@ghostyslovesheets that’s your opinion, others could argue that the facts are wrong.

ghostyslovesheets · 29/12/2020 14:57

no others could counter the facts with other facts - that's a discussion - telling me my facts are biased as the news is owned by big pharma and 5g is killing people and Bill Gates wants to microchip me is not factual - it's bollox

StrugglingICUnurse · 29/12/2020 14:58

I don't think the news channels are broadcasting enough.

Where is the news that there are very few ICU beds left? Given a truly sick covid patient stays in ICU 6-8 weeks, and this is the beginning of the surge - we are fucked.

We are running out of oxygen - some of the newer therapies use much more than a ventilator.

We are in escalation wards as well as ICU, never managed to give them back after the first wave.

Redeploying staff from other areas, elective surgery to be cancelled again.

SparkyLauz · 29/12/2020 15:01

The reason why hospitals are at capacity is because they shut down too much earlier in the year, people didn't get treatment for things they needed (which weren't covid related) hence this has caused a backlog in patients needing attention/ surgeries and missed important diagnosis. X

CoRhona · 29/12/2020 15:01

People believe what they want and no amount of posts, social media comments or news stories will make a blind bit of difference.

Ihateme · 29/12/2020 15:01

@IndecentFeminist I am really glad for the staff that work there that this is the case
