To have made my dad an appointment?

He's really worrying me but I'm not sure if I'm over reacting. He's 76 and lately he's been forgetting simple stuff like closing cupboard doors after him or flushing the loo. Also things that we've told him - sometimes I'm repeating myself five or six times.

He also dwells in the past - every story he tells is from twenty or more years ago. He also makes stuff up that I know just can't be true and it makes me hugely uncomfortable. (Like saying he did a job I know 100% he didn't do - my aunties have backed this up.)

The last thing is that he's started making nasty comments then getting upset when the person he says it to gets cross.

He also falls asleep constantly - he can sit down and be asleep in minutes even in public.

It reminds me so much of my uncle who had dementia and I'm so freaking worried. ☹️☹️ Mum and dad think I'm over reacting though so I'm expecting him to downplay it to the GP.

I think an appointment is sensible OP, this is pretty much exactly how my grandma started. And if as your parents think there’s nothing to worry about then the GP will be able to put your mind at rest. But if I were you I would do all I could to get him to an appointment.

Thank you. I filled in a eConsult last night so he should get a call back ASAP.

Yep not unreasonable at all. Just how my nan started. She nearly set her house alight as left a hob on. That was the final warning sign after that her kids demanded she saw a doctor. Hope the GP can reassure however xx

Thanks. He's got an appointment for bloods and a urine test on Friday.

I hope you get what you need from the appointment OP, whatever that may be. My heart really goes out to you, such a difficult position to be in either way. Unmumsnetty hugs to you.

Thank you. Friday can't come quickly enough!
