Should I be annoyed?

After 20/30 years of same interior my MIL decided to update fireplace at the height of pandemic. Tier 3. She has multiple illnesses so I thought while not breaking law this was silly and could wait. Was told by H none of my business but the rest of the work (decorating etc) wouldn't be done until things had calmed down. Decorators were then booked to cone two weeks ago, I wasn't told but my H was there and came back to family. I found out from someone else. So he lied and I think he potentially put us at risk. He also think my son is a constant Covid carrier. But it's fine because the decorator was tested every day!!!

How cross would you be or should I calm down?

Sounds bizarre to get the work done now.
How much time does DH spend at his mothers home for it to be a risk to you?

TheBigFatMermaid · 28/12/2020 19:35

I thibk the timing could be much better. Another year for redecorating would be fine after all that time!

I also think your DH lied to you to prevent an argument.

I need to know more about the situation with your son though, before I comment on that.

OverTheRainbow88 · 28/12/2020 19:37

Why is a decorator being tested daily when doctors, nurses, shop workers, teachers etc aren’t.

That doesn’t seem true

bloodywhitecat · 28/12/2020 19:39

How on earth did the decorator get tested every day?

She lives 3 hours away so he goes to stay there to visit. He stayed 3 nights while decorating was being done.

My son sees his girlfriend- who also sees her family.

Well tradesmen can still work so i think its really upto your MIL what she does in her own home
I suspect your DH lied because he didnt want an argument about it.

Totally up to her I agree but if my husband is there I think I should know before he comes back.

No way the decorator is tested everyday.
Nurses are only tested weekly!

What’s wrong with her getting work done? How long do you want her to wait?

@Nicknacky

The fact that the decorator might have coronavirus!

NerrSnerr · 28/12/2020 20:07

It's completely up to her whether she gets decorators in. It's up to your family whether you want to mix with her. Should your husband be travelling 3 hours to see her? The advice is to stay local.

Nicknacky · 28/12/2020 20:08

@toomuchcheese12 So she stays in a different room. The virus isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so work needs done in homes.

If you and your h are that concerned then stop your h’s three day visits. Are they permitted where you are?

MiddleClassProblem · 28/12/2020 20:10

The only problem and rule break I can see regarding MIL is your husband staying...

LaceyBetty · 28/12/2020 20:12

Your son is just as bad though.

cansu · 28/12/2020 20:15

YABU It is really none of your business if she decides to get work done or not. How would you feel about her telling you what to do?

EKGEMS · 29/12/2020 19:43

@cansu The post is about her husband being there around a tradesmen who could carry corona virus and then he tells a tall tale about daily testing to her

Bookworming · 29/12/2020 19:46

@toomuchcheese12 your H may have coronavirus and give it to the decorator and MIL.

Someone I know who works in a mental health care home has just been given a huge set of 30-min result Covid tests Hmm
