Angry at the gov covid testing

AIBU?? I ordered a covid test for myself 4 days ago as i thought id lost my sense of taste and didnt feel 100% had a snotty nose and felt exhausted (i am preg though!) Tried to order one for DP aswell (he lives with me) and it says u can order for up to 3 people u live with... but he had no symptoms so it wouldn't let me order him one.... mine came back negative... today my DP has been ill, sneezing, and temperature, he is really unwell with it and in bed says he is aching and thinks its flu... i just tried to order him one got to the end and it says u cant have one cos u recently ordered one to this address 😠 yes for me!! What the hell!?? What are we supposed to do now. Just want to point out that we have been following all the rules since march both worked all our lives and paid tax and NI and these are the 1st ones weve ordered.. AIBU to think this makes no sense since u can order 3 at a time anyway and it's for a different person!?... they're not helping much since they are trying to STOP this virus.. what if he just went out tomorrow to the shop and was positive!?

Why would he go out to the shop tomorrow when he has symptoms?

I've found you get the results much quicker if you go to a test centre, is there one near you?

Pukkatea · 25/12/2020 22:56

That does seem a bit odd of the system, but if he has the same symptoms as you a few days later and you were negative for coronavirus, the overwhelming probability is that he also doesn't. Sneezing and snotty noses are not typical covid symptoms either.

CoffeethenCrochet · 25/12/2020 22:59

Can you book a drive through test? If he has symptoms, none of your household can go to the shops tomorrow until he's received a negative test result.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 25/12/2020 23:00

If he has symptoms he has to self isolate. Can you drive him to a walk through centre, masked up with windows open?

Appointment can be made on app.

Just assume he has it and follow guidance.

It does seem ridiculous that you can't get a second test sent to same address.

DressingGownofDoom · 25/12/2020 23:01

What's paying tax got to do with it?! Just go to a test centre.

Duemarch2021 · 25/12/2020 23:06

@SpamIAm

Don't worry, he wont be going.. but my point is, if the gov aren't willing to give us a test (even though they and we are all so desperate to get rid of this horrible virus) then they can't expect him to isolate for 10 days 'just in case' when they wont give him a test.. of course if we had a test and it was positive then he would self isolate whilst waiting for results and then after for 10 days.. but like another poster said, it could be just a bad cold but the gov dont care enough to check that so 'what if' he felt better tomorrow and carried on life as normal.. nobody would want that, he could be spreading it... fingers crossed it is just a cold and is negative like me, but it's the temperature thats got me worrying

Can you book an in person test? I had one at a drive thru test centre

lunar1 · 25/12/2020 23:09

I had similar, the Zoe app asked me to test, ordered a postal test which arrived damaged-all the liquid leaked out the test tube. 1hour on the phone to 119 who said it was really important I got another test if the app asked me too, but they couldn't send one so I needed to go back and order online.

Couldn't get one online as I'd ordered one too recently!

Vitaminsss · 25/12/2020 23:09

When you tried to order the test the 2nd time, did you use his full details or yours?

Duemarch2021 · 25/12/2020 23:11

I have just gone back on.. and we have booked a walk through app.. but it says if you're really unwell, dont come and order a home testing kit ... i just tried!!!😣 just makes no sesne to me and seems to be a bit silly since they are sooo desperately trying to get it gone!!! Also want to moan that the hme teating kit is not very straight forward for someone who might be a bit older or finds it difficult to follow instructions, has no internet or a disability..since you have to register it online and scan a barcode then put the box together etc.. i can imagine an older person gettinf frustrated and chucking it in the bin to be honest.... sorry im hormonal and just annoyed at everyone and everything at the moment especially this horrible virus

HighSpecWhistle · 25/12/2020 23:14

Why doesn't he go to a drive through test centre?

I get it's frustrating. Really you should all isolate for the next few days while you wait for him to get a test and the result. Going out to the shops, knowing you live with someone with a symptom is irresponsible.

WanderingHopefully · 25/12/2020 23:16

Just go for a drive through test or ring 119 for advice. He'll need to isolate anyway, whilst waiting for his test.

CrazyToast · 25/12/2020 23:23

Doesn't suprise me, government site, government logic. Pretty annoying though.

Duemarch2021 · 25/12/2020 23:24

@Vitaminsss

I used his details but my email address.. not sure if that had anything to do with it but seems to mean the home address...

@DressingGownOfDoom

Paying tax wasn't exactly relevant.. paying NI was though...but my point was were not just sat scrounging or taking the piss ordering tests left right and centre and expecting the government or NHS to provide us everything we fancy while we sit on our bums then moaning when we dont get our own way like some people do..

This is an error in the system. I booked home test kits for me and DD about a month ago. They arrived missing the info leaflets with the test kit numbers and Royal Mail return labels. No matter what I tried even when they emailed advising to call 119 for replacement you can't get home test kits sent out again because there's a 14 day cool down period for ordering more. 119 can't override it. Luckily DD's school were able to give us two test kits from their limited supply. This is an issue that should have been addressed by now.

PickAChew · 25/12/2020 23:26

Ordering a test centre test is the same process as a home test.

Duemarch2021 · 25/12/2020 23:26

Dont worry.. were not going to the shops.. i was just making a point.. but we have one booked now.. no car at the mo! But we will walk to a walk through... just a pain that it says "dont come if you're very unwell"

OP posts:
PickAChew · 25/12/2020 23:26

Can't he order his own, BTW, using his own details?

Duemarch2021 · 25/12/2020 23:33

@PickAChew

No he's asleep and it says it takes longer to get the test through post between 24th and Jan 4th but apparently its only accurate within 5 days of symptoms so im panicking and ordering now whilst hes asleep.... he would only be doing what i do? Ive put his details in..?

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 25/12/2020 23:39

It's so much quicker going to a centre. Just book one and do it.

Duemarch2021 · 25/12/2020 23:43

Have done that now @Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails

Would have rather had a home test though as he is unwell with his symptoms and we'll now have to walk as have no car at the moment... it also says at bottom 'dont come if you are very unwell and order a home test kit' ... so i was having a moan as its all very contradictory

OP posts:
Livpool · 25/12/2020 23:54

I booked one for DS a few weeks ago as he had a cough. When we arrived we were all tested - no issues

Heartofglass12345 · 25/12/2020 23:56

Have you tried ringing 119?

Crunchymum · 26/12/2020 00:00

Is this shit still going on?

Had this issue in September (DC2 had a cough, managed to get a home test and then 3 days later DC1 started with the cough. We couldn't get a test and had to SI for 14 days)

We are central London no car and the nearest walk-in was 7 miles away. As 2 of my 3 children has symptoms we were all SI and there is no way I could have got us all to the only testing centre that had slots without a cab or public transport.

The system is utterly flawed in this respect as you don't all come down with it at once?

At least I know next time to order 3 tests instead of one and use them as and when.

boredinthouse · 26/12/2020 00:10

@Duemarch2021

You're going to walk while you have symptoms? You don't need to get on public transport do you?
