To be really concerned about this?

Not really an AIBU, but could do with some opinions

I was prescribed the pill around 3 months ago due to really heavy periods. It was agreed with my doctor then I would take the 3 packs of pills continuously and then have 1 week off to have a bleed, rather than every 21 days

Last week I started spotting. It was nothing too heavy at first but the past 3 days it's gotten really bad and I've passed a few clots and also what I can only describe as a weird, pink jelly type thing tonight Confused

Am I right to be concerned about this? I'm so confused why I have only just started bleeding 3 months into taking it

Could you have been pregnant? 3 months then a bleed would tie in perhaps.

snookercue · 22/12/2020 23:48

You have been taking them for 3 months so are on the 3 month break now?

TildaTurnip · 22/12/2020 23:48

I think best to get checked out. Calling 111 would get you directed to the best place. Flowers

I'm almost at the end of my last pack, I think have 4 more pills to take. Of course I have had unprotected sex with my DP as I've been taking my pill religiously each day and haven't missed one

I get menstrual migraines so was prescribed the pill for three months with a one week break and at the end of the third pack similar happens to me. Not very large clots, but it is a bit yuckier than a regular period. A day or two into the full flow period it is normal. I wouldn't worry too much but do ask your doctor when you can.

TildaTurnip · 22/12/2020 23:58

Calling 111 is my advice because you’re passing larger sized clots and they can tell you if this needs looking at and where to go.

Whyismycatanasshat · 23/12/2020 00:03

I’d say 111 too.
I used to back to back mine for 16 weeks at a time then stop for 5 days and have a bleed before doing another 16 weeks and the bleeds where different to my none pill periods. I sometimes had spotting around the 16 week mark so would come off for a break if that happened before I’d hit the exact 16 week mark.
I now take tranexamic acid tablets to reduce the heaviest days of period and they are better for me than the pill.worth talking to your GP about.

The pill is absolutely notorious for causing odd bleeding - it started for me after I'd been on microgynon for several years and nothing showed up during tests, but it stopped after I came off it. I really wouldn't worry, but if it persists then you could ask your GP to check your cervix and send you for an ultrasound for your peace of mind. Is your smear all up to date? I think they're still doing them now...

kimberlynk · 23/12/2020 00:07

@velourvoyageur I haven't had my first smear yet. I'm 23. Will ring my GP tomorrow and see what they say, I'm thinking Microgynon just isn't working out for me Sad

Is there any chance it could be a decidual cast?

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 23/12/2020 00:56

Sometimes this can happen if you run too many pill packs back to back.

When I was on microgynon I used to run pill packs together three at a time but sometimes I would start spotting before I finished the third pack. Other people are fine to run more than three packs together though.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 23/12/2020 00:57

I don't think clotting is normal though so give your GP a ring as soon as you can.
