Worried about becoming a mum

Did you?

I am due in a few weeks. And I just feel very nervous about becoming a mum the closer it's getting! I wonder if I'll be any good at it, I won't know what to do etc...

Don’t worry OP. We all worried about it. You’ll be fine.

Just fill your phone now with numbers of breastfeeding counsellors and any other support groups you might need, ask family to stay for a few weeks to help, and remember to fill your freezer with meals now.

It is a huge shock to the system having your first baby, and very hard, but all the hard phases eventually end- you will sleep again. Just make sure you rest as much as you can, and ensure your DP pulls his weight.

Yep, I had sleepless nights worrying I wouldn’t have the instinct people talk about. I’m the oldest of a big family, been a step mums for years, have loads is friends with kids I’m close to - everyone assumed I’d be a natural.

And then she was born and I suppose I was Smile

Having a baby is a huge deal but what helps is to remember what your baby expects of you and needs. They don’t care about a pretty nursery or what their clothes look like, how tidy the house is, what brand of nappies you buy. They want you close, your warmth and heartbeat and smell, you’re the only home they’ve ever known and you’re their place of calm and safety in the bright, loud, overwhelming world they’ve emerged into. They want cuddles and warm milk and a clean bottom, gentle chatter and singing.

You’ll be great at it. Honestly, I think everyone worries, it’s nature’s way of preparing you.

Op, don't worry.

I'd never held a baby before I had ds, I'd never changed a nappy, fed a baby, done any of it. I'd always avoided them Grin

You'll work it out.
