I have a shop being delivered today. I added a turkey but now wondering if it will be ok date wise. Anyone else buying a turkey this weekend?

Should be ok.

Note to self -take turkey out of freezer tomorrow night!

Haffiana · 20/12/2020 08:46

I am wondering the same thing. I think there is going to be a massive scramble for SMALL turkeys because many people will not be catering for the usual extended family.

I want the tiniest turkey possible!

I happened to be in Waitrose when the announcement was made, we were planning to go to my parents' I picked up a small turkey crown but there were lots of people doing the same whilst making frantic phone calls, I'd expect the supermarkets to be busy today

BeneficiaryMadness · 20/12/2020 08:48

Just stick it in the freezer.

HeartZone · 20/12/2020 08:49

I won’t be stressing over it.

To have turkey is traditional but I wouldn’t personally want to chance buying it today (although you could get frozen).
There are many alternatives.

Somethingsosimple · 20/12/2020 08:50

Thanks all. @KarlKennedysDurianFruit can I ask the date on your turkey please

Freeze it as soon as it arrives. Defrost in time. Bingo.

CottonSock · 20/12/2020 08:55

It will be fine, surely they plan that the turkey is for Christmas day. Although I peaked too soon and my ham is best before 23rd, I got that a week ago.

FairyontopofthetreeBatman · 20/12/2020 08:55

Check the date when it arrives and if it’s no good send it back and brace yourself for the shops!

superstar84 · 20/12/2020 08:55

You can always pop it in the freezer, I'd be tempted to cook it and freeze it in slices with a bit of gravy then it won't take long to defrost on Xmas eve

Retiremental · 20/12/2020 08:56

Put it in the freezer.

Brieminewine · 20/12/2020 08:56

I got one yesterday from M&S which is in date until the 27th

superstar84 · 20/12/2020 08:56

Tesco food to order turkeys were available on deliveries tomorrow so the dates must be fine for Xmas day

The frozen ones were only available on deliveries until 19th

MimsyBorogroves · 20/12/2020 08:57

I got a crown yesterday which is in date til Boxing Day.

MessAllOver · 20/12/2020 09:07

Ours (bought yesterday) is in date until 27th.

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 20/12/2020 09:10

I heard on Facebook people were practically fighting over them yesterday evening so sharpen your elbows. All the folk that thought they were going elsewhere for dinner now want one.

Anniegetyourgun · 20/12/2020 09:27

Good lord, I wouldn't fight over turkey. Turkey is the cheap stuff you put in curries IMO. Got to hide it under so many sauces and sides that it might as well be a log of wood under there. We have a half leg of lamb and the appropriate veggies laid in because we saw this coming.

Batmanandbobbin · 20/12/2020 09:30

I got one yesterday which bb is 29th.

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 20/12/2020 13:08

Earlier message didn't post for some reason ones is 27/12

Belledan1 · 20/12/2020 13:24

Farm foods have small frozen bernard Matthew's turkeys. Might be a shop lots of people might not do their big shop.
