Christmas Eve shoppers

Why would you put yourself through that? And on purpose!
I always thought Christmas Eve shoppers found themselves in that position because they'd run out of time or have been so busy that Christmas has crept up on them. It turns out that some people deliberately choose to shop on this day. I bumped into a woman today in the shops. I was laden with gifts. She was casually browsing. We got chatting and I told her I had now finished my Christmas shopping. She said, 'Oh, that's good. I'm a Christmas Eve shopper me. Always have been.'

I'm shocked. Do people actually enjoy shopping at the last minute? What about the wrapping and delivering of said presents though? Isn't that a major rush too?

In the days when there weren't never ending sales we used to go out on Christmas Eve. One year, around 1pm we decided to buy a new divan bed from a sale of mis-matched bases and mattresses, they piled it onto the car roof rack, we got it home into the garage, disassembled the old bed and put it outside, just as the raining started. We hauled the new one upstairs and started to assemble it, it was a divan base in two halves and we discovered that the two halves didn't fit, the connecting holes didn't line up. We then had to return it to the store to get a base that worked, the old bed being soaking wet by now. They were thrilled at the store, 15 minutes to closing.
