Bio-oil- Is it better than vaseline for skin?

Just as per title. I know it's often used to prevent stretch marks during pregnancy but is it also good to use on face for wrinkles etc

I thought it was useless. I was extremely disappointed with it. I was using it to improve a large raised scar. Whilst still not brilliant but cheaper, nicer smelling and more pleasant to use I'd recommend Palmers cocoa butter over bio oil any day although I never used it on my face.

Personally I would never use Vaseline on my skin apart from to prevent rubbing/blisters on my feet. It is made from crude oil.

I also think Bio-oil is a massive rip-off and vitamin E oil, or basically any other moisturiser will work just as well for stopping stretch marks. Pregnant woman are an easy target for getting money out of though, hence its popularity.

No it's awful and has zero actual benefits

My derm recommends Vaseline for the face and I've had a lot of success with

It will NOT help wrinkles , you need Tret and sunscreen

All it did was make me itch wherever it had touched my skin! Hate the stuff.

I preferred Weleda Mother oil.

Vaseline has extensive medical evidence to show it can be extremely effective at reducing trans epidermal water loss (i.e good occlusive for dry skin conditions)

Bio oil on the other hand has little to no evidence to support its claims of treating stretch marks.

Also, stretch marks can’t be prevented, beyond not putting on lots of pregnancy weight quickly, according to my doctor, midwife and derm. It’s apparently genetic.

I am using Johnson& Johnson's baby oil on my skin (not face) and I haven't felt any difference between that and bio oil before. I think it's just incredibly good marketing...
I use specific face oil, not just any random one because I would probably end up with my face melted (so bloody annoyingly sensitive). So if you are looking for oil for face, find one for face, not body. From my experience.

HopeClearwater · 12/12/2020 17:58

@MaskingForIt is made from crude oil

Vaseline is one of the many products made by refining crude oil. It isn’t ACTUALLY crude oil and it doesn’t have the same chemical makeup.

Thanks everyone for the input.

Isn't Vaseline a 'barrier' rather than a 'moisturiser'?

bloodyhairy · 13/12/2020 08:42

That was my impression.
