To ask if anyone has received an honour?

Just wondering if anyone on here has had an MBE or similar? If so, what was the process of finding out like?

I nominated someone very deserving quite a while ago and apparently they are still under 'active consideration'. I think it's all been delayed because they made a special 'covid' list this autumn. But if it was going to be this New Year I imagine they'd have heard by now would they?

I know you get asked first if you will accept the honour but I don't know how long before the lists are published. And - just because doing the nomination got me really interested in the process - what was it like to find out you'd been nominated? Or if you've nominated someone how did they react? I know it can be controversial and some people don't accept but in this case I know they would be beyond thrilled - 'life made' kind of territory.

The date they will be published hasn't been announced, it's usually close to 31 December.
Until the honours are announced recipients are expected to keep it a secret, so it is unlikely you will find out before the publication date.

I worked with someone who was nominated - she received a letter asking her if she would accept the honour if awarded and asking her not to tell anyone. She kept schtumm and we only found out when the whole list was published. I don't know how she kept quiet - she was so chuffed when she could talk about it.

I have one. As pp said you get a cloak and dagger letter saying we are minded to offer, let us know if you might accept and stay stumm until the public announcement. I did, no problem as I felt conflicted anyway. On the one hand it's nice to be recognised, but on the other I'm a republican and not keen on the empire connection. But I accepted it as a civic award. I am glad I did. It was a lovely day for my family and a great memory.

Yes my boss received an obe. She kept quiet until the list was announced and no I didn't know beforehand. I was really proud as I worked closely with her 😃
