Can you recommend other masculine fragrance's along the same lines/similar to Black Orchid?

Posting for traffic Grin I love the above and will be getting a bottle for Christmas - DH also loves it but is there a similar scent I could get him so we aren't wearing the same?

TIA Grin!

What about Tom Ford ombré leather? It's lovely, a bit more masculine than Black Orchid but I think of it as similar (can't describe smells so can't tell you how!)

EmilySpinach · 09/12/2020 20:51

Chanel Sycomore - but what’s the problem with wearing the same?

Olivetree615 · 09/12/2020 21:48

Nothing wrong with us wearing the same @EmilySpinach but if we can but two naice smells instead of one I’d prefer that Grin

I did think about ombré leather @Polly99 but I’m nervous about buying something I haven’t smelt first!!

Tom Ford Black Orchid and Ombre Leather are my absolute favourite perfumes! My husband has Tom Ford Noir which is gorgeous too. I bought samples from fragrancesamplesdirect.com - they charge about £3 for a 1ml sample - but I think it's worth it when you're paying Tom Ford prices.
And another favourite is Armani Sauvage - delicious!

Get the superman discovery box from The Perfume Society. It's full of samples and you can both pick a favourite.

Love Black Orchid.
First new scent I have liked in years.

ivegotthisyeah · 09/12/2020 22:45

Sauvage is beautiful

ivegotthisyeah · 09/12/2020 22:46

Think is Christian Dior though @Sookie53 ?? I may be wrong

nitgel · 09/12/2020 22:48

Velvet orchid is nicer imo. Wear that and he could keep the black orchid.

Slothkin · 09/12/2020 23:42

OP would www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Maison-Martin-Margiela/Jazz-Club-20541.html be a thought?

YanTanTethera01 · 09/12/2020 23:47

Molton Brown Russian Leather and Tobacco Absolute are lovely if you like a unisex fragrance. Creed Aventus has to be the all time best smelling cologne ever, even beating Tom Ford I hate to say because I absolutely love Velvet Orchid.

If you're looking for something with similar spicy notes to Black Orchid then some of these might fit the bill:

Tauer Lonestar Memories
Tauer l'Air du Desert Marocain or Au Coeur du Desert (the intense version of l'Air)
Tauer Lonesome Rider

All of these have the carnation (clove= orchid family) that BO has but less mainstream.

Chanel Coromandel is similar too.

All of these are billed as "women's" but are imo resolutely unisex as they're neither flowery or have that unpleasant over strong "cedar" note that most aftershave manufacturers seem to think essential in men's perfumery. (I love Sycomore but even that has the twang of Brut33 if you wear too much!)

CrotchBurn · 10/12/2020 06:44

@TheSilentStars
Totally agree re Coromandel. A very strange, moreish perfume. However I can find it a little nauseating on certain days

TheSilentStars · 10/12/2020 06:46

Absolutely- you have to be in the mood.
Coromandel and Black Orchid were two perfumes that I'd read a lot about, and when I smelled both for the first time my first reaction was a visceral "euwwwww" and then seconds later "oh my life this is a masterpiece"

CrotchBurn · 10/12/2020 06:53

@TheSilentStars
The weird thing about that perfume (Coromandel) is my partner (who generally likes traditional girly crap, such as when I wore something with on trend clumpy ankle boots and asked his opinion, and he said it would look better with silver heels 🤦‍♀️) absolutely loved this! I just got a sample, put it on, and like you thought "meh". And he was all "what IS that??! It smells amazing!!".

So it's not a traditional feminine scent, but theres something about it. It feels more like a winter and autumn perfume though, I cant imagine wearing it in summer (?).

Linguaphile · 10/12/2020 06:58

It’s not really similar to Black Orchid, but TF Oud Wood is a wonderfully spicy and masculine scent. DH is getting some for Christmas.

Sookie53 · 10/12/2020 07:46

@ivegotthisyeah you're right! Don't know why I put Armani!

Olivetree615 · 10/12/2020 08:38

Thank you all very much! Lots to think about Grin!
