To not feel like Xmas

fishykettles · 06/12/2020 16:05

My two eldest DC's have left home and we can't see them on Xmas day. We also can't see my mum as she doesn't want any visitors. It's just going to be me and my youngest who has told me they don't want an Xmas tree as it's too much hassle. I feel like saying sod Xmas and not doing anything. Aibu ?

Yanbu, that sounds a bit miserable Sad

It's a grim time so I'd just do whatever the two of you find easiest to cope with.

Why can't you see your older children? You could still make it nice and fun with just you and your younger child. Not criticising you as I think I would feel the same but maybe the youngest is sensing your disappointment and its making them feel disappointed too. How old is the youngest?

17. The eldest both live in a different tier to us.

Reckon you two need to have a really good talk about how each of you is feeling, and why. And from that, figure out what would make a nice Christmas day, with the least amount of pain, needless trouble, and regrets, for the both of you.

tensmum1964 · 06/12/2020 17:49

I thought the tier system doesn't matter on Xmas day. I might be confused but I thought we had a 5 day sort of reprieve so that we can see family etc.

katy1213 · 06/12/2020 17:52

Do the eldest want to be with you? I'd visit anyway. But the whole turkey/tree thing isn't compulsory - why don't you invent a new Christmas of things that you'll both really enjoy?

justchecking1 · 06/12/2020 17:56

The whole tier thing is suspended for Christmas. They can come if you/they want them to

Oh I didn't realise that. I'll have to have a chat with them and see what they want to do.
