To think customers are more rude nowadays?

I have seen instances where customers try to claim the food or service was very bad so they can get free refunds. And if you don't give in they threaten to write a horrible online review. Not to mention customers who will give you 0 stars for being 2-3 minutes late with the food and write comments like 'terrible service' and exaggerate other things. If someone was 5-15 minutes late with my food I would not bad mouth them as I understand sometimes it is not possible to deal with hundreds of orders and there could be a slight delay.

Also in retail I have seen where the staff are seen below customer mentality. Have seen instances where customers have made retail workers cry, patients attacking nurses in hospitals, racism etc. you name it.

What is the worst thing you have seen in terms of customers treated staff poorly?

And to also think, the 'customer is always right' is one of the worst concepts you could ever hear.

Over a decade working in customer service (thankfully I got out) and I definitely saw a decline in behaviour and an increase in entitlement.
I was called names, had things thrown at me and threatened and then a manager would trot along and give the abusive customer a voucher to reward their disgusting behaviour. It’s no wonder people treat staff appallingly. The louder they were, the more they got.
I hate people.

Yes, the ability to vent one's spleen on the review sites has made the obnoxious even more obnoxious. I think that every business needs to employ someone to reply to poor, unjustified reviews, I once read a scathing 'review' of somewhere we eat regularly, BC obviously, the writer was clearly talking about the place next door. It needs a few managers to stand up to the bullies.

Chicken or the egg really. I have been seen what it's like to serve the public and know how unpleasant it can very often be but I also have seen as a customer how rude and arrogant some customer service workers are.
