Has anyone recently moved ti Gillingham from London (south east). How’s the area Twydall. We have an 18 months old girl so also anything about primary schools would be great.
Thank you

There are lots of lovely places in Kent. Maidstone is a traffic nightmare and Tunbridge is a bit like Islington, maybe you are in the rich part or maybe you are in the council estate part. Further out is better but the train is £££

Lots of snooty people on here. Don’t worry, Gillingham is a beautiful place with lots of little pockets of tranquility

@rattusrattus20

How is it the local football chant goes, isn't it:

We can't read/
We can't write/
We wear gold and Nikes/
We are all from Gillingham and we are [something] pikeys.

Err as a Gills fan for the last 30 years I have never heard any of our fans sing that. Hmm

I grew up in the Darland area of Gillingham which is still nice (and has a lovely view of the area), but if I were an outsider moving in, OP, I would be looking more to the areas outside Rochester, like Upnor or Hoo.

Ironically the only crime I was ever a victim of was when I lived in a naice part of Maidstone, never had a problem in the years I lived in Gillingham. Most of the snobbery about the place comes from people who have never lived there.

Couldn't pay me to live in gillinghan

Deidretheelf · 03/12/2020 22:30

bearnecessity my Gran lived there, she died in 2018 and her house was sold in Nov 2019 so were there regularly til then, love it too. Missing it this year.

Lewisham and medway are not the same beasts. Honestly. I can't really explain it but it's not London, so it's not as diverse, it's more on the deprived side. There's levels. I really wouldn't move their Op.

What's your current place like? I'd stay. Plus the train fair will eat up a lot if you move outside the London zones.

Hmm*there

Boopeedoop · 03/12/2020 23:12

if you can manage to move to rainham (5 mins from twydall) it's fine.

BoudiccaD · 03/12/2020 23:57

Gillingham is fucking horrible. Same as Chatham and all along there. Dont do it.
