What in god's name is going on with me!?

Posting for traffic, sorry!

I'm on antibiotics for a kidney infection, had all the classic symptoms and I am starting to feel better, aside from my bloody throat!

My lymph nodes are enlarged but I have woken up today with it being too painful to drink, eat, swallow and even talk. Nothing is relieving it.

I'm concerned as I'm already very small, so can't afford to not be eating (ketones found in urine too). I also need to be drinking lots but it's too painful. Is this normal? I've never ever had a a sore throat like this in my life and I'm a wee bit concerned if it continues into the weekend.

Would I be an absolute wet lettuce to go back to the docs with what is actually just a sore throat? I'm struggling to even talk to my toddler which is obviously not desirable. Painkillers aren't helping it either. Could I have tonsillitis or something to make it this bad?

Yes that’s absolutely possible. It could also be viral of course. Nothing wrong with asking the doctor for their opinion. Friend’s DS is on antibiotics for a very sore throat and only had a phone consultation to get them.

Thank you, just needed to know I wasn't being ridiculous. Just called the docs and waiting on a call back to see if I need to be seen. Thank you! Hope your friends DS feels better soon @MatildaTheCat

Could it be a weird side effect from the antibiotics? What are you taking?

You're absolutely right to seek more medical help though.

I spoke to the docs over the phone and they've diagnosed tonsillitis and prescribed me different antibiotics and said I don't have a kidney infection. Bit weird as the antibiotics specific to kidneys have stops my chills, nausea and back ache. Been told to stop taking those and start this new course. Very odd but hopefully it'll work. I would have thought the same but I've had a sore throat for about a week but nothing awful until yesterday when I assumed it was just a response to having an infection and enlarged glands. Hopefully these will sort me out. Thanks so much for the reassurance that I wasn't being ridiculous.

Glad you phoned for help OP.
Tonsillitis can be nasty. I’d had it numerous times and it was always a bit of a sore throat, nothing more. Last time I had it I was dehydrated, had a temp of 40, became dehydrated, was hallucinating and essentially was wiped out for a week after 111 told me to seek help at an A&E walk in. So yes - tonsillitis can be so much more that a sore throat!

I hope you feel better soon.
