No euphemism, I mean my actual cherry...
Last weekend I bought the ingredients to make a Christmas cake (Delia's). I measured out all the dried fruit and was left with a few currants, loads of sultanas and raisins and most of a tub of glace cherries (yes that sort of cherry).
I tipped the currants/sultanas/raisins into the tall container I use for dried fruit and then tipped the cherries in on top because I never use them normally and they'd just go to waste.
Sunday I made a mixed fruit bread in the breadmaker. No cherries in the ingredients but because they were on top of the fruit I actually wanted, one fell in when I was measuring the fruit out and I left it in there, whole.
All week I've had three slices of fruit bread mid morning instead of breakfast or lunch (WFH). And all sodding week I've been waiting for my bloody cherry. This morning I finished the loaf and....no cherry!
So where did it go? There have been no teeny chopped up red bits through the rest of the loaf, no hint of red at all. You don't put the fruit in until the main bit of mixing has been done anyway for exactly that reason. I can accept it may have not ended up whole, but the bits would definitely have been visible. No-one else in the family likes the bloody things and would hardly have shoved their hands into part mixed bread to lift a cherry even if they did.
So, where did my bloody cherry go?
