Asda employee discount

The employee discount scheme stipulates that it is for use of the employee and one other person from the same address.

My sister works for Asda but is currently in hospital so I’m helping out with her children and running the house.

Would I be unreasonable to use her discount card for her shopping? Whilst she’s off work she could really do with saving the money.

Also, does anyone know what discounts the card gives? I’m wondering whether I can help take advantage of any Black Friday discounts for her kids for Christmas, so she doesn’t miss out on the savings.

It’s generally 10% but it’s double discount this week.

I would ask her.

I wouldn’t use it. It’s not worth risking her job for a few quid. I know things are hard right now but if she’s in hospital and then gets sacked,she’ll be devastated. I hope she’s soon better

Don’t do it people lose their jobs over this.
If you absolutely must then make sure you use her bank card at least.

Are you able to ask the store manager of the store where she works. Maybe a special arrangement could be made?

Just get your sister to do an online shop.

Goodness. Just use it. When my dm worked at Morrison's she gave me her 2nd card and I lived 100 miles away.
You could always do the online shop to be delivered to your dsis house.

Sorry for assuming she is well enough to do the shop. If she already has an online account set up you could do it for her.

Don’t use it without permission, your sis could be at risk of losing her job. Supermarkets usually have very strict policies for staff discounts, if abused, it could be considered gross misconduct/theft. I wouldn’t chance it. I hope your sis is better soon.

I know Tesco are insanely strict about theirs, and I suppose most are the same.

If she's too sick to use the card herself, they'll know that. Stores monitor mad things, and often it's dependent on the manager.

Being fired won't make the 10% worth it.

If you can't ask her (and if she has any sense she'd say no, and wait until she can do it herself) , hands off.

I would call the store. As far as I'm aware, this is allowed but only because of these circumstances.

Don’t do it, it’s not worth the risk. Especially at this time of year they’re on the ball for it and she can and will be fired for it if they find out.

Mine has a named person on it and they have to sign it. As far as I know no one has ever checked but they were very clear about who, when and how it should be used and the consequences for misuse.
I wouldn't want anyone else using it in store but online would be different I think, could you try and order a click and collect/delivery on her account if she has one? If it's through her account to her address then it might be ok.

Agree don't do it, a friend works for another large grocery store and was on a week long residential manager's course elsewhere, discount card was used in store for a large purchase and his boss rang to check where he was as he should have been on this course (which he was).

Someone was allowed to use your discount card in you behalf if you were shielding due to covid so I'd consider it the same

Yes it's a recent thing you register your card once and then it's there to use online

Thanks. I don't actually shop with them now, since the Christmas they cancelled my order without notice because of a heavy snowfall; not blaming them for the snow, just that they didn't tell me until I actually rang them to ask where the order was.

I agree, speak to the store manager where she works. It could well flag up that she is off sick but look like she is well enough to be out shopping.

Ask her manager. I know Tesco allowed others to use discount cards so shielding colleagues could have the discount on shopping still. If not save the receipt and get her to claim the discount back off the csd desk. Hope she’s feeling better soon

Generally speaking, misuse of staff discount is a disciplinary offence and can result in being sacked. Unlikely in this instance but possible.
