I'm really struggling with an obscene number of genital warts - I've been told I can't get a face to face consultant (or face to fanny... if you will). Until after lock down. Meanwhile I'm sure they're growing, multiplying and pretty make taking over.

Can anyone tell me if you had them. (Internally). How did you cope? What treatments did you have? How long did they take to clear up? Should I be trying to book in with Gp or at a sexual health clinic? Any and all advice welcome.

Are you sure it isn't herpes?
Are they painful at all or just bumpy?
Does it hurt to pee?

M0mmyneedswine · 17/11/2020 22:52

I would make an appointment at a sexual health clinic asap if any are open near you

exitlight · 17/11/2020 23:14

I work in sexual health (SW) we’re seeing patients - and have a specific weekly ‘lumps and bumps’ clinic for patients experiencing symptoms like yours. Keep trying at your local sexual health service until you get an appointment. Appointments are limited but they are there. Good luck!

Thanks all.

It doesn't hurt to pee but I'm incredibly itchy. I know the internet is a mine field but I've googled and read quite a lot of forums and looked at as many pics as what google will show me so that I could compare herpes against genital warts... I really don't know what I have but I do think it looks more like
Warts.

Herpes is ulcer like blisters and you'll want to die when you pee. Warts are cauliflower like growths. You need your sexual health clinic for either caudophyllin paste or to have them frozen off. You'll need a smear as well. Good diet and rest will help in the meantime, but try and get seen asap

Hi OP,

I've had genital warts a couple of times after having unprotected sex a few years ago. Unfortunately they do come back sometimes. If I remember correctly it stays on your skin so you can never truly get rid of it so to speak.

I had to go to a sexual health clinic to have them frozen off. The last time I went was around two years ago and they've not come back since. If they are spreading I would say be careful when you are washing yourself (a bit like having a cold sore)

Good luck

No medic but can only speak from experience that if it was herpes I would expect you to be hitting the roof every time you went to the bathroom and in general pain 24/7

debbie88 · 18/11/2020 00:28

If you've had them before and know they are gential warts could you ring you GO and explain? Is it not usually just a specific cream they prescribe. Otherwise try Superdrug. I had a bad rash and I was able to send photos through online for a prescription. I thought I had herpes turned it it wasn't but maybe try that

debbie88 · 18/11/2020 00:29

GP not GO

Unfortunately I've never had them before so am completely self diagnosing from google images/reading websites. I'm going to try to get a face to face appointment if I can. The itch is ridiculous ... I really can't sleep. Confused

This is good to know. Hopefully we can rule this out.

Warts don’t generally itch, but it might be you’ve got thrush as well as warts.

I had warts as a teenager, I went to the sexual health clinic (GUM clinic at the time) and had them iced off. They disappeared after a few weeks and in 20 years I’ve never had a reoccurrence.

I did have them diagnosed by my GP, but if you have a clinic that’s open it might be best to take a visit to them.

debbie88 · 18/11/2020 00:57

Try that link that's what I used when I thought id herpes. All the best Smile

Skyecat · 18/11/2020 01:36

Try your best to get to a sexual health clinic. They can examine you and take a swab, offer any other tests they think might be helpful. Most GPs do not have the same level of knowledge as a gum specialist, especially when symptoms are atypical.
