AIBU to think I will be able to get my paws on a PlayStation 5?

My DS would quite like the new PlayStation 5 for Christmas, it needed to be pre ordered a couple of months ago which I did not do. It wasn't decided if that is what he was getting so that's why I didn't pre order.
Is this pre order malarchy just to build hype and anticipation or will I really not be able to purchase one nearer to Christmas?
What are your thoughts please?

I have no clue, but would love to know. Ideally I want 2, but as my DC are 18 and 21 they can have one when I can get hold of one even if it's 2021.I told them to keep an eye on the situation and if they see one buy it and I'll refund.

Is there something about 19/11?

I'm a big gamer and I know they under produced the consoles by a long way. Unless you want to spend easily a thousand plus buying one from someone who pre ordered just to sell for profit, then I'd say no chance sorry.

The console is now released.
Any stock that comes in at various retailers, will be snapped up within minutes as people will have set up stock alerts on websites and people share the info on online communities.
Alternatively you can pay over the odds on ebay or similar.

If you are really desperate, set up stock alerts on any retailers that allow it and join a community like HotUKDeals which has some threads relating to the new consoles and people post when they spot stock available or strategies on how they have secured them (e.g. an elaborate way of using several browsers and refreshing the GAME website non stop every couple minutes for several hours so when they add an extra 1 or 2 Xbox in stock they can add to basket in one browser, refresh checkout screen in second browser and secure the console before somebody else snatches it up).

I would manage DS expectations now. As a last resort, it may be easier to just promise in the new year when stock should be easier to get hold of.

I am sure we had this with the PS4 too.

You might struggle a bit to be honest, as they're currently in demand. But it does look like more stock is coming in. My SIL has been looking for one for my nephew and hasn't had any luck yet.

I've heard rumours Amazon will have some more for order on release date, may be a bit of a delay but i'd imagine you'd get it before Xmas if that is the case

Can you order one he gets it when it is back in stock? No need for the Christmas hype ?

It's not hype. DH pre-ordered his Xbox and PS5 and it was bedlam online both days. You'd be very lucky now!

More stock due on release day (Thursday).

I have refrained from asking the DSs what the actual difference is between the PS4 and PS5. Someone said you can play PS4 games on it though which is a departure for Sony-usually it's buy all the games too.

They’re released on 19th Nov but we pre-ordered a couple of months ago - present from my brother (generous uncle with no children of his own) to my DC. The pre-orders sold out within hours (possibly even minutes) so a lot of people are trying to get hold of them it seems.

No chance of a pre-order now (they all went straight away) but some retailers have promised to have some stock in available for online purchase. Have a google for the latest retailers (there are a few UK stock checkers sites that have sprung up,) and prepare to get online at midnight on the day if you want one. My DS would like one, waited all year and saved etc - we've let him know it's unlikely we'll be successful in getting one but that it will make a rubbish January/February good when he does get his mits on one(they are planning to have lots more stock as you would expect!).

I am past the point of staying up all night to get the latest gadget-if they are that keen they can do that themselves.

There's 2 different sorts too. They want the non digital one apparently.

@Sparklingbrook you can play ps4 games on the 5 - if you get the hardware version of the 5 rather than the digital one...

Thanks for the replies, but not what I wanted to hear lol. I've been briefly looking on line and it is out on the 19th as some of you said, so shops will have more stock in then but probably only enough to fill the pre orders. I'm usually so organized but the PS 5 decision was really only made a few weeks ago.
I've put my email address on the likes of Argos website to keep me informed if there's more in.

I know it's an expensive buy but he is usually so easy pleased and doesn't normally ask for much so it would have been great to get him this for Christmas, but in the grand scheme of things it'll not be the end of the world.

There's a limited amount. DP's job is a stockist they are only getting half the amount expected the majority are pre-order with deposits staff aren't allowed purchase at all.

not a chance your getting on Thursday if you didn't pre order unless your happy to pay 700ish instead of the 450 RRP.

Ive got two pre ordered, did have three but cancelled the 3rd as it wasnt really needed.

Try the catalogues like studio etc. I always find they have the sold out things because people don't tend to look on there for those things
