AIBU to think I will be able to get my paws on a PlayStation 5?

My DS would quite like the new PlayStation 5 for Christmas, it needed to be pre ordered a couple of months ago which I did not do. It wasn't decided if that is what he was getting so that's why I didn't pre order.
Is this pre order malarchy just to build hype and anticipation or will I really not be able to purchase one nearer to Christmas?
What are your thoughts please?

And just to add the one we currently have is definitely on the way out as it becomes hotter than the sun and noisier than the underground after about 3 minutes. I’ll stick with the normal disk one. Thanks everyone!
Ah, the PS4 'aeroplane take off' noise. And yes, no need to have the heating on when it runs, it makes the room hotter than the devil's arsehole.

So far the PS5 hasn't shown the same issue, but some have reported some noise when being put through its paces with higher spec games.

We saved up nectar points for a couple of years with the intention of buying one from argos for a joint family christmas present. Luckily due to being a crap sleeper I did manage to get a preorder from them.

It is massive! Looks a bit ridiculous in our living room. It's also silent, loads instantly and replaces our dying ps4, that has seen a lot of use. The graphics are so good. The controllers feel a bit odd. There is a lot more feedback from them. Had a play with Bugsnax which we got free. Bizarre game, especially for a launch title.

Technically I should wait until Christmas til we play on it, but well covid lockdown... Wink

My adult daughter is a huge PS fan. She missed all the pre orders from game, Amazon, Argos etc but I hit lucky on pre-ordering it from Curry's, and she had hers delivered on release day. However my two teenage sons are xBox lovers and ummed & ahhed about getting the new one, thus missing the pre-order deadline for that. They've now decided, after seeing their sister with her new console, that they do want the new Xbox after all - but they know they won't get it for Christmas now. They decided to save up any Christmas and birthday money and hopefully buy one in the spring. I'm thankful that they're being pragmatic about it, as I can recall way back in the mists of time when the Xbox 360 was released, my brother paid a fortune for one on eBay as my nephew was so desperate to get it for Christmas!

It's worth using air spray duster to clean the fans - we have also taken ours apart a couple of times and the dust inside was substantial

We took DS2's PS4 apart and actually had to get the crevice tool of the hoover to get all the clumps of dust out. Sad

AO are getting new stock in. Just sign up for the email.

Thanks, I never thought of AO. I thought I had one this morning! I checked Amazon and it let me click on it but the price was £1044.40! Needless to say I did not continue the purchase.

We didn’t have all this malarky when the hoop and stick came out.

EmilySpinach · 21/11/2020 13:24

If you need to extend the life of an old PS4 (and I would only advocate this if it’s out of warranty) then in addition to clearing out the dust if you have someone in the house who’s fairly confident with a screwdriver it’s quite straightforward to replace the thermal paste. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube.

Avoid Game co uk at all cost
I bought a PS5 in November for my son. I was told that it was dispatched and I would receive it the next day . Payment was taken from my account. Emailed them weekly since November
Now have been told that Royal Mail delivered the item which is a bare faced lie.
