AIBU to think I will be able to get my paws on a PlayStation 5?

My DS would quite like the new PlayStation 5 for Christmas, it needed to be pre ordered a couple of months ago which I did not do. It wasn't decided if that is what he was getting so that's why I didn't pre order.
Is this pre order malarchy just to build hype and anticipation or will I really not be able to purchase one nearer to Christmas?
What are your thoughts please?

What an odd post. Not everyone is struggling and prioritising consoles over food hmm
Of course not but clearly A LOT of price are looking to buy one if they are already all sold out and people are desperate to get their hands on one. So as a society, we can't be doing so badly despite what we are made to believe.

samanthajonespr · 19/11/2020 09:49

Argos have the digital one in stock

dontdisturbmenow · 19/11/2020 09:49

People not price!

hettie · 19/11/2020 09:51

@dontdisturbmenow it's not completely true about not being able to play between PS4 and ps5 ....my ds tried that line of persuasion too. Its to do with each game, many games will be cross compatible. So you don't need a whole new console to chat and play with your mates

Tomcullenisahero · 19/11/2020 10:01

Hettie that's my understanding too, the same as the PS4 games can be played on the PS5 (disc version obviously).
I thought Argos had stock earlier then when i went to checkout it was sold out.

dontdisturbmenow · 19/11/2020 10:01

@hettie, thanks. I think sadly the game they will play won't be compatible. My DS could afford it, he has much in savings but is refusing in principle.

Personally, the less time he spends on that console the better. They are addictive, toxic and take kids away from much healthier activities.

what a load of old rubbish. Sorry but it's somewhat ironic to be criticising the whole of the country for daring to spend their money on a games console whilst simultaneously hovering around for tips on where to get one on an online thread.

Tomcullenisahero · 19/11/2020 10:17

But they can also be fun, I play games with my DS and he can keep in contact with friends when it's miserable outside and he'd be stuck indoors anyway. I think it's about balance, my DS is sporty and likes going out too

Hahaha! Good luck with that! You and a billion other people

WidowTwonky · 19/11/2020 10:21

I got mine from John Lewis. Order confirmed to collect tomorrow. So pleased.

Good luck if you’re still trying

nevermorelenore · 19/11/2020 12:36

Apparently if you are an existing BT customer or EE you may be able to order. metro.co.uk/2020/11/18/bt-says-you-can-order-a-ps5-console-from-them-tomorrow-13617368/amp/

FudgeDrudge · 19/11/2020 12:39

They will have a tiny amount of stock.

I am definitely not buying one so no, not looking for tips.

And it's not a lot of rubbish. Its sad that there should be a shortage of such a superfluous piece of equipment at a time when the government has to subsidise so many families.

It's not a race to the bottom. Put the patronising sad face away. And maybe your computer/phone/whatever superfluous device you're using for your better-than-thou posts on here.

I've just managed to order one. After a colossally shit year (and that's not including Covid and lockdown), I'm bloody thrilled, such a treat for us. My husband/kids will have to wait their turn when it arrives!

Loveable1 · 19/11/2020 13:30

@dontdisturbmenow struggling to understand why you are being such a nasty person and are on this thread when you are being so negative Confused

You have made it pretty clear you don’t want a console and have no positive advice for those trying to get one.

Obviously the saying ‘be kind’ didn’t even hit you in the arse this year.

Tinkywinkydinkydoo · 19/11/2020 13:45

Have the people who ordered at curry’s had their order cancelled? My sister ordered one early hours but isn’t allowed her phone in work to check her emails. Wondering if I should go in to prepare her it’s been cancelled.

Tomcullenisahero · 19/11/2020 13:54

My friend just text me to say Game has released some bundles to pre order. Should arrive mid Dec. A big online queue but if anyone is still looking maybe try there.

I haven't had mine cancelled yet. I keep expecting it to be. I know some people have, some haven't. Someone posted on twitter a few mins ago that Curry's are now saying that they are going to honour those orders. But there are so many different stories now I'm not sure what to think!

Hats off to Sony, they know how to create a frenzy round their brand!

Good luck to everybody. We managed to get a pre order using my sons' birthday money from the shit lockdown birthday they had in April when we couldn't see a soul and the eight weeks of self isolation they've had to have from school.

There's enough doom and gloom right now without sanctimonious posts upthread. This will put a smile on their faces and I make no apologies for that.

A lot of companies do this at Christmas. That way, when you can't get the toy they want for Christmas you have to get them something else, and then you buy them another toy (ie the one that was sold out before Christmas) in January when it is magically in stock Hmm

It's well known in the trade. Creates hype, and gets parents to buy two toys instead of one.

I loved the underground advertising.
MsHedgehog · 19/11/2020 14:23

I managed to get one on Amazon today. DH wants one for Christmas, so after trying the Tesco website all morning, I gave up and thought I'd try the Amazon website for just a few mins before admitting defeat and carrying on with my day, and I got one!

Apparently Amazon have them sporadically throughout the day rather than releasing them all at once and selling out immediately.

I only got my order through this morning using the save to basket trick, and it hasn't been cancelled...yet. I got a confirmation email, then an email saying it would be delayed and they'd call me, and then another email 3 hours later saying the order is being processed for delivery next week. I'm not holding my breath - I was fully expecting it to be a glitch and for it to be cancelled immediately, so I'm amazed it's still 'live'.
Loueytb3 · 19/11/2020 15:23

Update - I've just had an email from Curry's to say it will be delivered by 15th Dec. So they haven't cancelled all the orders.
