To think my hip bones have widened since pregnancy?

So I'm 7 weeks pp after EMCS

I know I've got weight on my tummy after pregnancy that I need to lose, and I'm starting to really hate my pp body tbh....but....

I feel like my actual hip bones are wider. Is that possible after pregnancy? That they permanently shift? I'm guessing it is?

I am convinced my hips have become and stayed wider after 3 babies. Not what I want but am trying to make my waist look smaller (need to lose weight anyway) to counteract the wider hips 😂

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 14/11/2020 19:58

Yes, your hips can get wider. It's not necessarily permanent though!

Please don't be too hard on your body - it's done something amazing and been through a lot so cut yourself some slack! You're still so early on and your body will take a bit of time to recover so try not to worry about it too much right now.

JoJoSM2 · 14/11/2020 20:00

I feel like my hips are wider but I’m happy about it.

Smallsteps88 · 14/11/2020 20:00

I'm genuinely shocked this is a serious question? is it? you cant seriously have not known that your hips widen in pregnancy to allow you to give birth?

38weekswithno2 · 14/11/2020 20:00

Yes, my hips and ribs permanently widened. There were certain clothes I could never get back into even once I was back at pre pregnancy weight.

HavelockVetinari · 14/11/2020 20:01

Yep, it's possible. I used a post-partum wrap on my abs and hips for 12 weeks, it pushed everything back to where it was before. You could try that? Alternatively they do often go back by themselves, albeit more slowly.

Cabinfever10 · 14/11/2020 20:01

My hips and rib cage both "sprung " as my elderly male dr so eloquently put it after dc1 apparently it is quite common after 2 or 3 children and I was just fortunate enough to have it happen after 1

Duesept20 · 14/11/2020 20:06

@Smallsteps88...Yes, obvs I knew my hips widened. What I wanted to know was if it happens permanently.

Also, chill out a bit 😂😂😂

I have done lots of exercise after baby 2, and despite all my measurements going down to 8 years before pre baby levels, my ribs won't fit in my wedding dress any longer. About two inches wider at the bottom.

Oldraver · 14/11/2020 20:17

Look up relaxin

The pregnancy hormone relaxin, which increases the size and elasticity of connective tissues—ligaments, muscles—will remain in a new mother's body for up to five months.

it really wasnt clear from your OP that you obviously knew your hips widened, you seemed pretty bemused by the whole thing.

megletthesecond · 14/11/2020 20:41

Yes. My ribcage, hips and feet all stretched permanently even when I was back to my previous weight.

38weekswithno2 · 14/11/2020 21:10

@Smallsteps88 it's pretty clear from her op that she's asking if it's a permanent change.

Smallsteps88 · 14/11/2020 21:20

no it seemed pretty clear that she was asking if its possible that her hips had widened and that it was permanent. both things.

VestaTilley · 14/11/2020 21:23

It’s definitely a thing. 19 months later and I’m wider on my hips. I’m back to the same old dress size bit my hips are now more square! Doubt they’ll go back, but I don’t mind, I’m very proud of what my body did. Women’s bodies are amazing!

frolicmum · 14/11/2020 21:25

I have no medical opinion but give your body time to heal, your body has just done something amazing & I believe that 6 weeks pp is the hardest time as the baby honey moon phase is over (or at least that's how I felt), I am quite sure your body will go back to normal after some time but again, give your body time to heal - check in again in 6 months time xx

GreenSeaGlass · 14/11/2020 21:28

My feet grew a shoe size when I was pregnant (10 years ago). They never went back down.

JoJoSM2 · 14/11/2020 21:30

My feet grew a size too. Not happy about it as they’re now size 9/9.5 so my choices are limited.

AhFiddledeedee · 14/11/2020 21:32

Certainly, I'm 7 + years post birth now and though I've been down to pre pregnancy weight (and back up again!)

My hips are certainly wider without a doubt. I assume they will never go back to how they were, but I dont mind, it gives me more shape

Meerkatmummy4 · 14/11/2020 21:32

My rib cage expanded after having ds4 and has never gone back, i can actually feel the gap between both sides. I've sort of come to terms with it now.

dancingindungarees · 14/11/2020 21:36

My hips never went back to normal nor did my feet return to the same size. The feet thing was a blessing though as I was barely a size 3 previously.

sodalite · 14/11/2020 21:36

My bust stayed bigger and my stomach looked more bloated for 3 years after birth and then I suddenly went back to pre- pregnancy shape and size, give it time I was surprised as I assumed that was how I would be after all that time.
Shame the bigger bust disappeared at the same time as the protruding belly though.

AnnaSW1 · 14/11/2020 21:37

My feet have widened. So annoying

38weekswithno2 · 14/11/2020 21:45

My feet went up about a half size too which was quite good as I was a 3.5 before and there are far more options in a size 4.

Pinkyxx · 14/11/2020 21:54

My hips and my rib cage permanently got wider, and my feet got bigger after 1 pregnancy! My belly has never been the same either. I was expecting the hips / belly but rib cage and feet were a surprise for me :-)

She 11 now so I suspect it's permanent!
