What age is too old for character school bags?

DS10 is obsessed by Minecraft. And needs a new school backpack. Is he too old for a Minecraft one? He does have some SN so acts younger than he is. I'm sure he'd love it but...

He goes to a small school, one class per year group. The other kids pretty much ignore him most of the time.

The other kids know him and ignore him (ie don't bully him?)
I'd go for it.
But he'll need a more grown up one for secondary.

My DS12 has a Pokemon one... I (47) use a Tom and Jerry bag... and my old leather school bag from when I was 6. DS also has lunchboxes which we've collected over the years with Angry Birds, minecraftMickey mouse and reversible sequins.... he likes them and is happy to use them

With SN I wouldn't risk starting secondary when it comes around with a character one, unless going up with a solid group of friends or a very confident child.

A sociable, NT, popular child can get away with anything. One who is already a bit 'different' doesn't need something that enhances that to other pupils who don't even know them yet.

My DD10 (year 6) has a Harry Potter backpack.
She has already said she wants a plain black Nike one for year 7.

I think primary is fine for character bags.
