Just watching that blasted DamTDM with ds. He is showing videos of him on a website called omegle.

I just looked it up. It is a video chat service where you can chat to strangers, no need to register!
Surley that's a massive safeguarding issue.
He is appearing on kids computer screens in thier bedrooms.
I've never heard of this website, but surley it's so dangerous, and a kids you tuber like dan tdm should not be promoting it.

Am I kissing something? Who would allow thier kids to have this? Seriously, they just seem to log in and a stranger appears on thier screen.

So supervise access to the internet?

W2020 · 09/11/2020 18:16

No idea what DamTDM is but we used to use Omegle as teenagers on sleepovers, and thought it was hilarious... Naked men everywhere. A playground for pedos and creeps. Can't believe our parents never found out/stopped us. Disgusting

chickenyhead · 09/11/2020 18:17

I have no idea if you are kissing something, but definitely put parental protection on chat.

nimbuscloud · 09/11/2020 18:18

Who would allow thier kids to have this? Seriously, they just seem to log in and a stranger appears on thier screen.

Many people have no idea what their kids access on the internet. Your child is one of the lucky ones who has a parent who supervises.

Milkshake54 · 09/11/2020 18:18

Omegle is not safe for kids! People just pop up randomly, so there is very little control!!

gwenneh · 09/11/2020 18:19

Dan's not a kids' youtuber. While some of his content is kid-friendly (and certainly anything he produced with Disney is) he's a grown man with a wife and child. Not everything he does is kid -friendly.

Doyouknowwhat · 09/11/2020 18:23

I dont kiss anything, I meant missing!
I do supervise my ds, but I still think this website I'd shocking.
And these videos from Dan TDM are aimed at kids, he records the children's reactions to seeing him.
I know he is an adult with a wife and baby, but that doesn't mean he has stopped being famous as a kids presenter.

Very dodgy. My neighbours 15year old lied about her age to register on a dating site for under 25's. Cue loads of replies from men very obviously 30-50. Horrifying.

emilyfrost · 09/11/2020 19:32

It’s your job as a parent to supervise your child and ensure they’re not accessing anything inappropriate.

Omegle isn’t “shocking”; it’s just a website. Not everything needs to be kid friendly, and this YouTuber doesn’t have a responsibility to protect your children either.

MamaMoonbeam · 09/11/2020 19:40

I work at a school and we've had a case where a child has been severely traumatised from an experience using omegle, unsupervised.
As PPs have said, internet use should be supervised to ensure age appropriate content is being accessed

Doyouknowwhat · 09/11/2020 19:41

I do supervise my children, dont get so rude.

I was just surprised that this is prompted as a site for kids to use.

And I do think that you tubers who have built thier reputation and fortune on being what is essentially a children's tv presenter should treat that reputation with a bit of respect.

I agree with you OP, he is actually a household name. But lots of them have multiple channels.

So unfortunately, we watch YouTube on the TV, well, I read, but it means everything is managed.

KiriAndLou · 09/11/2020 19:47

Omegle has been around for over a decade. Although I think it used to be just text based? There was a video version back in the day called chat roulette.

WiddlinDiddlin · 09/11/2020 20:02

Where have you BEEN?

Omegle, originally just chat based and now video, has been around donkeys years.

It randomly connects you to a stranger and whilst 99% of it even in the first years of its existance would be an immediate 'A/S/L' and then an invitation to see someones genitals, you could occasionally get an interesting conversation with someone the other side of the planet, which at the time was new and interesting.

It is not for children.

Where have we got this idea from that all of the interwebs must be child friendly?!

Parent your children, most of the interwebs is NOT child friendly, nor should it be!

TeachesOfPeaches · 09/11/2020 20:11

It's been around for over a decade and no it isn't safe to use for kids.

Doyouknowwhat · 09/11/2020 20:30

Well I must be out of touch, I've never heard of it.
And I know there is much of the internet not suitable for kids, that's why I'm sitting in the same room as he watches you tube on the tv.
I still think that if kids watch dan tdm chatting to kids of about 10 years old on a web site, they might want to try it, and he shouldn't promote it for kids if it's not aimed at them.

OP posts:
Betty94 · 09/11/2020 20:37

There's been a few you tubers using it during the lockdown, it's not suitable for children - a lot things on the internet isn't suitable for children - all people can really do is monitor their child's use of it.

Also from PP if a fifteen year old is signing up for a dating website and lying about her age that's something her parents need to deal with, that's not the fault of the men (unless they found out her real age and still tried it on) obviously a dating website isn't suitable for a child.
