Six months from your birthday?

OP posts:
Ickabog · 08/11/2020 08:35

Probably with a month or so to go. However I usually say the old age for several months after the next birthday, as I have a terrible memory. Grin

AuntieStella · 08/11/2020 08:35

Dunno - why does it matter?

I can't remember last time I did that. It's been years since I was under-age for anything!

Marzipan12 · 08/11/2020 08:36

No 6 months is not remotely anywhere near the next age especially for children. I say 6 in June,36 in March for example, never nearly.

JacobReesMogadishu · 08/11/2020 08:37

I never would.

If I was asked my age I’d say what my age was on that day.

Thatwentbadly · 08/11/2020 08:37

Surely it only matters if your a child then you are 4 or 4 1/2 or nearly 5 when your parents starting telling your it’s nearly your birthday.

user17163254865 · 08/11/2020 08:38

Our culture's obsession with people's precise ages is really weird.

GrandTheftWalrus · 08/11/2020 08:38

I'm saying I'm nearly 36 as it's my birthday a week today.

FuzzyPuffling · 08/11/2020 08:38

I wouldn't.
I might have done when I was 6.

ShirleyPhallus · 08/11/2020 08:39

It’s one of those minor irritations of life when someone rounds up their age. Especially when it’s to impress you on how good they look.

“Oooooh I’m almost 62!!”
Errrrr so you’re 61 then. Right.

ShipOfTheseus · 08/11/2020 08:39

I wouldn’t. I’m my age, until the next birthday. It’s only a thing that children do - wanting to make themselves be older.

LittleMissLockdown · 08/11/2020 08:39

If asked I'd just say my age as I was on that day. If my birthday was that week or possibly the following week I might add that into the conversation.

Aging up for months in advance should be reserved for small children only.

Hailtomyteeth · 08/11/2020 08:40

About four months ahead, if this year is anything to go by. I'll be 63 tomorrow. It's a bit of a shocker.

missmouse101 · 08/11/2020 08:40

You're. Sorry OP, but I had to read your thread title a few times to make sense of it. I'd say from 12 months before and onwards.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 08/11/2020 08:41

As an adult I don’t. I don’t think whether I am 41, 41.5 or nearly 42 makes any difference to anything these days. Maybe when I am nearly 68 and about to get my pension!

For my (primary aged) kids - both kids were born at the end of the month and I probably start saying “he’ll be X next month” or “she’ll be X at the end of next month” when it is true - so about 7 weeks before their birthdays.

missmouse101 · 08/11/2020 08:41

(For adults.)

Really? I thought it was pretty obvious what the OP was asking. Confused
ProudAuntie76 · 08/11/2020 08:42

6 months away would be bizarre quite frankly.

For me, “I’m nearly x” would start kicking in about 8 weeks before. Tbh I’d say “I’m x in 2 months/3 weeks/a couple of days”

Never understood ager uppers. The only people I know who do this are quite negative people who are hard to be around - their glass is always half empty and they like to point out that everyone else’s glass is nearly running out too!

elQuintoConyo · 08/11/2020 08:43

I just give my age as of that day. Who cares if you're X age next week. I'd rather be closer to 45 than 46.

The last time I rounded up was when I was 8 3/4 Grin

toomuchfaster · 08/11/2020 08:47

My age is my age until on my birthday when it changes. I can't imagine any reason an adult would say 'I'm nearly x'. I know children up age as they are excited about birthdays and getting older.

SimonJT · 08/11/2020 08:48

I will be 33 at the end of January, until that day I will be firmly 32.
