Well I'm a GP. And when people come to me having had surgery abroad and wanting follow-up in the UK, they don't get it. Yes of course we'll deal with anything emergency like an infection, but you should be having routine follow-up with your surgeon for a period of time after any surgery and that would have to be private. It particularly affects those who have bariatric surgery abroad - you should have specialist follow-up with the bariatric team for two years afterwards but in most areas of the UK this is only commissioned if you've had the surgery on the NHS. So those having surgery abroad either pay for private followup in the UK, or risk a worse outcome by not having the recommended specialist followup.[/quote]
@passport123 ah, I apologise, I had read your sentence to mean ‘you won’t get urgent aftercare’ rather than routine follow ups: my mistake!

Has anyone had plastic surgery in Turke Istanbul?

Kt0101 · 31/01/2023 22:34

I accompanied my friend for a dental treatment in Turkey. I was so suprised how amazing the facilities and doctors are. I would reccomend to get to know your suregon/doctor first and see if she/he is good for you.

I am doing a research about cosmetic treatments in Turkey in my University (Middlesex London). If you have time could you complete quick survey on the link here: eu.surveymonkey.com/r/MedicaltourismTurkey
It only takes few minutes and it is confidential.

If anyone wants to know more about cosmetic treatments in Turkey, let me know. :)

In all honesty, and I'll probably get dragged for this, but whilst I think it's fine to go to Turkey for surgery, I don't think the people that do this should be treated by the NHS if anything goes wrong when they're back in the UK.

There is already huge strain on the NHS and if you make a decision to pay less for surgery in another country, should you need medical assistance relating to this when you get back to the UK, you should be required to go private. In my opinion. The NHS doesn't exist to fix cosmetic mistakes made in other countries.

Not Turkey but my colleagues wife went to Lithuania for Tummy Tuck and Liposuction. Paid £1500 including everything - flights, hospital, op, transfers the lot. She said it was really nice - efficient, clean and the staff all spoke excellent English. Similar op in the UK at a clinic in Birmingham would have cost more than £6k.

God, no. When I think of the absolute best cosmetic surgeons, I think the US, South Korea, Brazil if you choose wisely. Turkey doesn’t register with me at all.

I had rhinoplasty in 2021 with one of the best surgeons in the US and he delivered exactly as promised: subtle outcome, painless and easy recovery, several post-op checks. What the hell do you do when you need a one- and two-week check-up and your surgery was all the way in Turkey?

Stupid comment. You can’t decide there’s a threshold on getting treatment. What if someone’s being treated for smoking or obesity .. should they be turned away because they willingly smoked and ate too much?

I went to the best rhinoplasty surgeon who’s in Turkey and he lectures around the world and recently did one in Miami. I wouldn’t discount any surgeon based on their location.

Frankola · 23/06/2023 11:39

@phatt what are you talking about? I'm talking about elective cosmetic surgery. For vanity. Ie. Boobs, nose, teeth etc.

As far as I know getting a nose job or your boots made bigger is nothing to do with smoking or obesity... you don't get your boots enlarged because you smoke 🙄

Frankola · 23/06/2023 11:39

Boobs not boots autocorrect
