Any care workers here? Struggling due to covid

I work as a carer in a independent living complex. Basically everyone lives in their own flat and we provide support to help them to live independently example personal care, medication support, cooking meals.

As they are living independently, we can't stop them from going out and about into the community. The manager however put a strict "no visitors" rule which was fine. We had no covid cases. Visitors were allowed back in again early September. Within the last month we have had a resident catch covid from his daughter. This man is very social and has passed it on to 3 other residents and 4 members of staff. One staff member was in hospital for 3 nights. Shes very unwell.

I'm absolutely terrified of getting it now. I'm not anxious person nor am I a worrier. But now I'm scared. I actually want to quit my job I'm so worried.

How is everyone else coping.

I totally understand your worries. I take it that you are wearing masks at work. Just keep on following the guidelines from public health england.
Talk to your manager about your concerns.try to stay strong you are doing an amazing job.

Are you wearing ppe?

Do you all get tested?

Rainyrain · 05/11/2020 12:03

I’ve had a few colleagues who have tested positive over the last few weeks. Luckily it hasn’t yet been passed on to our residents so it seems likely that our ppe is doing it’s job.
I am slightly worried about catching it and taking it home where I have a vulnerable child but I’m taking every precaution at work and at home to limit the spread.
All you can do is wear ppe correctly at all times, keep washing your hands and hope for the best. You could catch it in Sainsbury’s so unless you can hide away from everything for the next however long carry on as you are.
