To ask what you do when you can't sleep?

I'm usually asleep by half 12 latest but I'm absolutely wide awake tonight! I suspect it's something to do with the medication that I've started taking last week.

I need to get to sleep soon as I know DS will be up at half 6 like usual.

What do you do when you can't sleep? 😭

Like you, I go on mumsnet Grin

I often use audio books, fairly dry factual ones are good. The right narrator can be very soothing.

HellonHeels · 02/11/2020 02:37

hope you get to sleep soon

DaddysGirlForLife · 02/11/2020 02:39

Lie in bed awake. Its pants! I'm on a night shift though. Hopefully you get to sleep soon.

Doggybiccys · 02/11/2020 02:45

Up having a cup of tea and browsing MN. This is my normal - insomnia really is a curse.

IloveZoflora · 02/11/2020 02:47

I tend to re start my night time routine and try again but that's not happening here tonight, husband is snoring very very badly. I may have to resort to pinching his nose as everything else has failed so far

ClarenceBoddicker · 02/11/2020 02:52

Hate it. Can’t sleep and become knackered to the point I’m ready to sleep when I’m supposed to be getting up

ClarenceBoddicker · 02/11/2020 02:54

And I’m just talking about work. Can bullshit my boss and company but you can’t bullshit a 6 year old

DinkBoo · 02/11/2020 02:54

Browse on here. I'd rather read a book as a much better way to nod off again, but don't want to wake dh up by turning on my light. I'm often awake around 2 or 3 or between 4 and 5. I should probably invest in a kindle. Hmm

jennie0412 · 02/11/2020 02:57

Make the most of it and study. Like right now Smile

Leaannb · 02/11/2020 02:58

Historical podcast with earbuds

TheFuckingDogs · 02/11/2020 02:59

Same here tonight - it’s the worst isn’t in. I read somewhere that people’s insomnia is always worse around full moon time. Mine is twinned with an anxiety attack tonight 😬

Reviewsplease · 02/11/2020 03:00

I concentrate on my breathing and that's the only thing I think about.

Right now I have a baby wide awake on me so I cant go back to sleep yet 😫

Glenthebattleostrich · 02/11/2020 03:01

I watch pride and prejudice and get cross!

BluePajamas · 02/11/2020 03:18

@Glenthebattleostrich the film or series?

Somewherein2021 · 02/11/2020 03:20

I have been like this for 2 weeks now Haloween Sad

vodkaredbullgirl · 02/11/2020 03:39

Work nights crap at sleeping day time after a shift.

Mumof3almost4 · 02/11/2020 03:45

I'm pregnant and getting a great nights sleep followed by a shocking one. Just given up and brought my book downstairs to read.
I know I'll be absolutely shattered all day trying to work, it's shite Sad

namechangefail2020 · 02/11/2020 04:07

I just got some warm milk and watch tv for 3 hours usually then fall back to sleep from 5-7 usually. So weird but it's my routine now so I look like death!!

CrikeyPeg · 02/11/2020 04:33

I lie there, toss and turn, giggle at the cat and dog snoring, checking the time on my phone, and try not to wake DH. Sometimes I'll get up and read, MN, do a puzzle, all of those things they tell you not to do if you want to get a good sleep. Last resort is a slug of port. Then the next day I make sure I exercise, which I've found is a major contributor to helping me sleep. Also, during the week I'm going back to no alcohol Mon-Thurs, also helpful.

pralineandketchup · 02/11/2020 04:34

Mn and books on my kindle, games on my phone

BasiliskStare · 02/11/2020 04:42

Kindle , walk around , MN ,cup of tea but have to say that a weighted blanket has significantly reduced insomnia for me.

planplan · 02/11/2020 04:47

Been awake worrying since waking about 2am. Finally come downstairs before I scream.

Obviously I'm on MN but am now gonna crochet!

WinnieTheW0rm · 02/11/2020 04:51

Keep trying to get back to sleep - maybe reading for a while

Only when that doesn't work (and depending on what time it is) do I decide to give up and resign myself to being awake, and start using a screen. Because then it just becomes a way to occupy myself without disturbing others until it's a reasonable time to start moving round

GnomeDePlume · 02/11/2020 05:16

Well, so far I have fed the dog and the cat and let them out. Dog is now snoring on the sofa and the cat has gone out to meet up with his catty chums.

If I want to get to sleep then I listen to ASMR on YouTube.

Otherwise I am here on MN or I go browsing and daydream about future projects. This can actually be quite productive. The plans for the house remodel (which is now complete) were all drawn up and researched during the early hours.

Piratesue · 02/11/2020 05:19

I'm a shocking sleeper, tend to listen to podcasts. Mainly news based ones so they are easy to listen to. Helps a lot
