Why set a time if they weren't ready?

I thought that Reeta Chakrabarti and the BBC Team did an amazing job to improvise for so long (or the parts I saw every now and then as I flicked over from the rugby), but they should have reverted to the expected TV programmes in my view, and either interrupted them later when he was ready to turn up, or waited until the News later tonight to broadcast it.
