To take my kids trick or treating (different circumstances)

I know this has been done a lot already, but I’ve just had a letter through the post box asking us to trick or treat. We live in a small village (about 40 houses and 200 sheep!) and the letter states that five members of the committee will be buying individually packaged sweets and leaving them outside the doors. Obviously I’d sanitise the sweets, I’m thinking about putting them in the cupboard for a few days and giving the kids stuff I’ve bought myself to eat on Halloween. Is this an awful idea? We live in a ‘medium’ tier one area if that makes any difference?

YABU- don’t be stupid, it’s only one year, stay at home!
YANBU- they’ve made it reasonably safe, let the kids enjoy themselves for once this year!

You’d sanitise and quarantine the sweets - do you do this with everything that comes into your house? Seems like serious overkill to me.

No I don’t @Meepmeeep but it’ll make me feel better for some reason :)

Sounds reasonably safe to me. I have already made up bags of sweeties to leave outside my door.

I probably wouldn't bother but I'm not really into Halloween. I am so glad for a reason not to bother this year!

There's no need to sanitise and quarantine. In fact overkill like that could be a bit damaging to your kids in that you don't know how they'll process that mentally.

Just sanitise the packets (if you generally sanitise all shopping etc and anything else that comes into your house), open them and tip them into a bowl.
