Bovril and Marmite ... it's the same thing isn't it ?

Noangelbuthavingfun · 28/10/2020 22:20

Just made myself the most delicious fresh toast with lashings of butter and Bovril..... yum 😁. (I could empty a tub in 3 days....).
Said to husband in passing: "I don't like Marmite as much, but Bovril is out of this world..."
DH: "Surely it's the same thing isn't it ?".
The look on my face said it all 😆

YABI = it's the same thing!
YANBU = it's 2 totally different things and anyone saying it is not needs a smack with a wet fish !

Marmite is yeast extract and bovril isnt

Averyyounggrandmaofsix · 28/10/2020 22:24

Marmite for bread and Bovril for toast.

MatildaTheCat · 28/10/2020 22:24

No. Both delicious but one is extract of yeast and one extract of beef.

Sorry YABU.

Bvop · 28/10/2020 22:25

One is a delicious vegetarian treat and the other is boiled down cow

MatildaTheCat · 28/10/2020 22:26

Nb your choices don’t make sense.

WrongKindOfFace · 28/10/2020 23:01

He is definitely wrong.

BackforGood · 28/10/2020 23:04

I'd spread marmite on toast or bread, but drink Bovril at 1/2 time at the match.

SaltandPepperIt · 28/10/2020 23:06

THE SAME?????? ARE YOU MAD????!!!!!

Marmite is the devil's food. Bovril, on buttered toast......oh.my.word.

gobbynorthernbird · 28/10/2020 23:09

LTB

SaltandPepperIt · 28/10/2020 23:12

Sorry, in my utter rage I didnt specify that my comment was to MrNoAngel, and as @gobbynorthernbird says - LTB

YouveGotMeWhosGotYou · 29/10/2020 06:38

Marmite is vegan. Bovril is beef juice.

sanityisamyth · 29/10/2020 06:40

Why are there two threads on this?

sanityisamyth · 29/10/2020 06:41

Bovril and Marmite ... is the same thing isn't it ? http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4063654-Bovril-and-Marmite-is-the-same-thing-isnt-it

Gooseybby · 29/10/2020 06:42

Bovril is cow, marmite is fungal. Both delish imo!

nosswith · 29/10/2020 06:43

Next you will be saying that UK and US chocolate are the same.

BikeRunSki · 29/10/2020 06:48

@Bvop

One is a delicious vegetarian treat and the other is boiled down cow
Agreed!
Ohtherewearethen · 29/10/2020 07:02

@MatildaTheCat - how do the choices not make sense? It isn't OP who thinks they are the same, it is her husband.
They are two very different things. I'd put Bovril in a soup or casserole but wouldn't put marmite in food, I only love it on buttery toast.

AuntieStella · 29/10/2020 07:04

Does he have a view on Vegemite?

Ashdownstar · 29/10/2020 07:06

I think people need to read posts and not just titles 😂
Yanbu!!
Very different, both delicious, especially on buttered toast ♥️♥️♥️

reallifegetsintheway2 · 29/10/2020 07:09

I'm glad someone else loves Bovril on toast! I do and so does my son.
They are not the same thing. I have never tried marmite! Just don't fancy it.

HeronLanyon · 29/10/2020 07:10

YANBU - they are totally different. Your dh is being not only unreasonable but ignorant and willfully annoying. I don’t say this often at all but perhaps you should reconsider your relationship.

Pythonesque · 29/10/2020 07:35

Even when they were making bovril from yeast only for a while they were still totally different.

ivykaty44 · 29/10/2020 08:55

Would you really drink a cup of marmite?

FatimaMunchy · 29/10/2020 08:57

They aren't both the same to a vegetarian. Bovril has beef extract.

KiposWonderbeasts · 29/10/2020 08:57

Marmite is umami gorgeousness

Bovril is Extract Of Bessie 🐄
