To have said no to redoing swabs

I've written a couple of posts lately . Trying to get past the GPS and be refered to gynocology. Pelvis pain, spotting etc.

Dr tried to push coil. I said not interested until I've had some further investigation into why my periods are so bad. Why my hormones seem to bad. Why I bleed and have pains at random points. Left sides ovary and pelvis pain recently has been really uncomfortable and I had a bleed after pulling the area.

He then said well you can't be refered without having swabs and an up to date smear. So last week I got on with it. I went in and got it done. Even though I was uncomfortable. I came out relieved.

Phoned up today for swab results. I was told I had tested negative for bv.

Then she went to speak to the nurse to ask if others were due back. The nurse said the tests for gonarhea and Chlamydia had gone wrong in the lab and so I needed more swabs booking in.

I said no I'm not having them done again. Because I won't have anything like that.

I've been in the same relationship for ten years. I've not had sex at all this year because I've been unwell and in pain. We've used condoms for all of that time apart from when we had our children. It was 3 and a half years ago since I got pregnant and that is the last time I had unprotected sex with my long-term partner. I had sti tests done 12 years ago and everything was fine! My partner had them done after a failed relationship around 13 years ago too and he was clean.

Anyhow my sister has just told me you can catch it from animals. From sheep etc. So she said she disagreed and I should hsve it redone.

The thing is I had it done. My partner booked an hour of work as the surgery is a couple of miles away. He kept the children with him so I was relaxed and able to focus.

I just want to be refered and I will not be happy if they use this against Me. Also my smear should be ok I hope! Surely they won't mess that up too?

My first thought is what does your sister think you've been up to with sheep?

m0therofdragons · 26/10/2020 16:23

The gynaecologist probably won’t accept your referral without them at the moment. I know they should take your work for it but many people lie so they just can’t. People regularly say they can’t be pregnant because they’ve not had sex for 2 years... test comes back positive and surprise surprise there was that one time. I makes it impossible to trust any patient. That doesn’t mean you can’t ask though.

LouiseTrees · 26/10/2020 16:23

I know it’s a hassle and you shouldn’t have to have them done again but it’s unlikely you’ll get referred without them. I would do them again.

I don't understand my sister's comments either. She's a sheep farmer though but I don't go near them. She said I could have caught it from any animal farm.

Aghh I have private cover and i just want to be refered now. It's just never ending.

just do it, better to be safe than sorry even if you're sure you're ok.

MiniMum97 · 26/10/2020 16:46

Yes just get it done. It will be easier than trying to battle to get a referral without the required tests. And the consultant will just insist they are fine anyway even you do get to get them to agree to accept a referral.

Fight your corner and be your own advocate BUT pick your battles carefully. There could be a more important one up the road.

m0therofdragons · 26/10/2020 16:49

Are there private referrals where you are? We’re not doing any private cases at the moment but every area is probably different.

XEbonyrose1X · 26/10/2020 16:57

@m0therofdragons

I'm in Lincolnshire. Why are they not being done?

They are not going to refer u without those test results and the hospital wouldnt accept the referral without the results. If u want referred go and get the swabs done again

SofiaAmes · 26/10/2020 17:17

I would be asking what "the tests have gone wrong" means. How could anyone trust a lab that messes tests up like that? Perhaps the new round should be done elsewhere.
