To really hope I don’t have COVID?

What I thought was a cold has turned into me coughing up blood and pus. I don’t have a temperature but I’m asthmatic so I’m all wheezy and short of breath. I’m 38 weeks pregnant. Maternity triage and 111 have asked me to attend a&e. I’m slightly terrified now. I don’t feel THAT unwell, just a bit short of breath but at this stage of pregnancy it’s a bit scary as it might mean having baby alone, being separated from my toddler for a really long time etc. Blah!

Oh bless you. Of course you don't want it to be covid but whatever it is sounds nasty so go and get seen. Don't think about beyond getting yourself checked over.

Lipz · 23/10/2020 08:29

Best to get yourself checked out as coughing blood sounds a little scary. Try not to think the worst, take each step as it comes and see what they say. Good luck.

Op being in hospital is the right place, most people feel breathless at that stage in pregnancy, remember to take in lots of ppe, hand gel.. Masks... Etc..

Good luck op. I've not heard anyone with corona talk about mucus and blood. It's probably a small blood vessel..

Being pregnant does funny things to your body, but at 38 weeks you are best to go to A & E asap.

Florencex · 23/10/2020 08:33

It doesn’t sound anything like covid. It does sound horrible though so I would follow the advice given and get to a&e.

PolarBearStrength · 23/10/2020 08:45

It doesn’t sound anything like COVID to me either but obviously with chesty symptoms no one else will see me.

I was meant to be having a sweep today so I’m a bit gutted! 😂

Fuck me. Man next to me is here because he is ‘really tired’. Never before have I heard someone so jolly.

It sounds more like a nasty chest infection to me if you’re coughing up blood and pus. Pus = infection, usually bacterial rather than viral. Definitely go get checked out but I don’t think it’s covid Flowers.

MootingMirror · 23/10/2020 11:18

On the bright side, you're 38 weeks - that means that even if it is Covid, at a WORST CASE SCENARIO, your baby could be born by c-section and be completely healthy and developed and not get Covid. Even if it is Covid, I think the evidence suggests your baby is safe the vast, vast majority of the time and won't catch it in-utero.
I'm sorry you're unwell but try not to worry. Pregnancy messes with you so much - I had blood and pus in places I didn't think could bleed or ooze.
Try not to worry about being told to go to A&E, when I was pregnant they told me to go to A&E every time I phoned about anything - they just want to be on the safe side.

Planty13 · 23/10/2020 11:19

Hope you get seen soon OP!

PolarBearStrength · 23/10/2020 11:50

Dr fairly sure I have a chest infection (as am I). Had a chest X-ray and waiting on blood results.

Oh you poor thing, hopefully they will be able to treat you with antibiotics and you’ll feel a lot better very soon. I am recovering from a nasty chest infection (covid test was negative) which ended up being pneumonia but once I’d had antibiotics I felt better really quickly.
