to think Mukbang is gross?

I've only just discovered this and am completely confused??

Have a look at #mukbang on Instagram.

For anyone without an Insta...it seems to be young men and women (usually v.attractive young women) horsing disgustingly large amount of food into their faces and filming it. This has to be some sort of fetish right?

Btw if you have misphonia consider this your trigger warning!

YANBU

I hate it. It's greedy and seems an awful waste of food.

I've just seen a woman chomping down fist sized portions of sashimi sounding like a horse drinking a milkshake and I think that might be enough internet for the day 😂

I used to occasionally watch MommyTang on YouTube. Makes all kind of Korean vegan recipes - eats with her little kids, chats away.

Most of them are very excessive though.

Hangingover · 22/10/2020 18:49

I can't believe how many followers they have it's mindboggling!

I think it's a dangerous thing for kids to be looking at. It's self destruction of the worst kind. It's an absolutely disgusting way to attention seek.

Dugsbollox · 22/10/2020 21:01

I have issues with binge eating, so have avoided watching this sort of thing. It's popular on YouTube too.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 22/10/2020 21:03

I agree, it seems to me it’s just people being greedy.

SweetMilkyFilth · 22/10/2020 21:15

It's really, really repulsive. Especially the ASMR ones.

Titsywoo · 22/10/2020 21:41

DD says they chew it and spit it out most of the time then edit it. Which is probably worse!

Hangingover · 23/10/2020 04:19

I accidentally watched one featuring a complete lunatic who shows enormous octopus/squid/eels/crabs to the camera (live) then squeals girlishly and pretends to be scared of them while they flop around in panic and in the next frame they cooked and shes horsing them into her gob and making sex faces. It's baffling and cruel and fucking gross.

It sounds like the kind of thing that would turn my stomach. I can't stand to see people eating 'basket'

Man versus Food was a enough for me where he shoves great quantities if food in his mouth all while trying to talk

DrGachet · 23/10/2020 10:08

I agree that these videos cater for those with a fetish/feeder mentality.

There's one particularly car-crashey bloke on YT, he started off his YT career as an underweight vegan promoting health and now is a severely overweight carnivore who will munch his way through piles of flesh on camera. He's always crying (and eating).

Fluffybutter · 23/10/2020 11:26

I reckon that if hell was real this is what Satan would make me watch 24hrs a day for the rest of eternity.
I suffer from misophonia so even people eating normally can set me off so fuck this malarkey.
People are seriously weird

PhilSwagielka · 23/10/2020 11:47

It is a fetish. I've never watched mukbang videos because I find the idea of watching someone eat deeply, deeply boring.

I feel like I saw him on a TV show...he went from being vegan to only eating raw meat with his weird friends. It was the most attention seeking thing I've ever seen! Also as a vegan myself I just can't see anyone who was ever properly vegan doing that extreme of a 180 tbh!
