To think the tiered system just isn't going to work

So after today's announcement the area I live is now sandwiched between 2 areas in a higher tier than us. What is in place to 'stop' the people from tier 2 entering our tier 1 area for more 'freedoms' and whatnot?

I don't know the answer, but I just don't think it is going to work! Or even be enforceable? Am I alone? I want to just wake up to normality!

I am in a tier 2 area, Essex, and what is in place to stop people going to say, Southend, which is a Tier 1 area, is simply the fact that this is not allowed. But it is the same within Tier 2 - what is in place to stop me going round my sisters, or going for lunch with my friend and claiming we are partners or flat mates and live in the same house if challenged - I know you can be fined but honestly nobody is going to follow that up. We just have to follow the rules - or not - and the same applies to going to a tier one area.

@CeramicGuineaPig I just don't know what the answer is. The local newspaper fb page is full of comments of people not going to follow the new tier 2 rules in their area and some of them are making good points as to why (one woman works with her mum and sister everyday but now won't be allowed in their house).

Like I say, I just have no idea what the answer is!

I expect it won’t work perfectly, but I think on the whole people will comply with what they know the restrictions are for their postcode. Social pressures and some occasional fining will help compliance. I live a mile away from the boundary of an area in a different tier , I will follow the rules for my tier.

Nobody else is allowed in their colleagues‘ houses either. We need to keep businesses open and the workplace should have Covid safety measures in place, the average household does not and even if one did this cannot be verified.
