To isolate (or not) after foreign travel

Absolutely fuming. DD2 aged 22, living and working at home, booked for a weekend in Italy, knowing that she would have to self- isolate at home when she got back. She has just announced that she won't be self-isolating - no-one does it - so why should she? OMG - I've been through all the reasons why she should. but she isn't listening. AIBU to be so bloody annoyed with her?

Oh dear. The selfish generation.

I would report her and let her pay the fine.

VeryQuaintIrene · 20/10/2020 18:22

YANBU. How could she know that "no one does it"?!

quelquechose · 20/10/2020 18:27

YANBU - In my country people couldn’t manage to discipline themselves to self-isolate so now they have to stay locked up in a secure hotel for two weeks if they come home from abroad. It means that very few people can enter our country unless they are returning citizens (many of them can’t get back home). But it also now means that we have very low numbers of cases and are almost Covid free (albeit our economy is trashed of course)

She’ll have to stay in her room within your house too, or you will all have to self isolate.

My parents’ friends got their son and air bnb to self isolate in for two weeks when he returned from living in the US (I suspect they paid for it as they didn’t want the risk of him infecting them).

I would kick her out for two weeks! Let her stay in a hotel or Airbnb so at least she's not risking you. What a dick

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 20/10/2020 18:36

I think this is a case of your house your rules.

Minimamame · 20/10/2020 18:49

Tell her about the person in Ireland who returned from abroad recently but didn’t self isolate and infected 56 people

Rotundandhappy · 20/10/2020 18:50

Report the selfish idiot. That’ll learn her.

YANBU. How disappointing for you
