To ask for your tips on taking antibiotics without feeling like shit

I am half way through a 7 day course of antibiotics and as usual they have absolutely floored me. I am drained, head ache and the nausea is dreadful.
I know I need to finish the course but does anyone have any tips of how to make things easier?

I had some anti-biopics a while ago the first in 17 years and they too floored me. GP was surprised when I told her

I did take some pro-booties at the same time so at least didn't get thrush

Pro- biotics

Take them with milk and after food to help with the nausea.

Probiotics taken before the AB. Abidec do ones specifically for ABs, but any good ones will do. A small bowl of natural live yoghurt eaten at the same time as the AB. Both help with nausea & stomach ache for me.

I always get anti sickness tablets from the dr when I take antibiotics. I may be a bit pathetic though.

Tiredmum100 · 17/10/2020 10:29

What antibiotics are they? If its doxyclizine I take first thing with my breakfast so you're upright all day, as they give me terrible heart burn and make me feel sick.

Tiredmum100 · 17/10/2020 10:30

And always follow the instructions as food/milk/indigestion remedies can effect them.

Waiting for tips. I have to take them with antisickness medication and antihistamines during and for a month afterwards. Unfortunately I have a condition which needs treating at least once a year. Having been hospitalised with sepsis from it, I dread the symptoms as I usually feel worse from the antibiotics. I lose a week each time.

I had this about 3 days into the course. Antibiotics were supposed to be taken on an empty stomach. I spoke to the pharmacist and was advised to take them with a small dry cracker or rice cake. It seemed to do the trick and stopped the nausea.

I have just finished a course and I know the feeling - an actimel at the time of taking them helped a lot.

Another person here suggesting that you try taking a probiotic - Saccharomyces Boulardii is a good one and a few companies produce it. Take at a different time from the antibiotic.
