AIBU to ask what this rash is?

17 Yr old DD has had this circular rash under one of her arms for several months. We rang the GP when it first occurred and the practice nurse dealt with it and prescribed Fucidin H cream over the phone. Although it did improve, it keeps coming back.
I know we need to get in touch with GP on Monday, but does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
Thanks in advance!

Ringworm?

dementedpixie · 10/10/2020 20:46

Can you put a picture? It could be fungal and need an antifungal cream

NHS page with pictures of ringworm rash, as it was my first thought too when you said circular.

I'm having a similar problem. Using antifungal cream prescribed by Dr but still not much better after a week!
Let me know if you find out what it is.Grin

SoreArmX · 10/10/2020 20:51

We have got some Clotrimazole cream so I will suggest she tries it!

Doesn't look particularly fungal. Looks like a patch of dermatitis/inflamed skin. It needs moisturising and maybe a stronger steroid. You may be able to get something over the counter at boots.

Redcherries · 10/10/2020 20:54

My son gets this rash, it itches too does your daughters?, if it’s the same, it’s related to deodorant for him, he has to use certain ones. I’ll ask him.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 10/10/2020 20:57

My sin has got a rash under his arm, just had a livi appt today and been prescribed anti fungal cream, its not circular though.
Have you got the livi app? You could try and get an appt tomorrow?

Still1nLove · 10/10/2020 20:58

I would say that it looks like an infected hair follicle, just a boil. Contact your gp who will probably prescribe antibiotics. If you go to a and e they might lance and drain it. Not an appropriate use of a and e but my gp won’t lance a boil, even an infected one.

PixelatedLunchbox · 10/10/2020 21:06

Candidiasis (yeast infection of armpit) would be my guess

@Redcherries Yes, it is itchy and possibly deodorant related. It would be great if you could ask your son which deodorants he finds best!

I too think it's deodorant related, i had something similar a while ago.. Also is she shaving/using a hair remover?
I stopped all of the above for a while and it went away..

ToastyCrumpet · 10/10/2020 21:16

Does it itch like merry hell? If it does, it’s thrush, or candidiasis. I used to get it when I went to the gym a lot. I took to sopping and rinsing my pits twice to stop it.

SoreArmX · 10/10/2020 21:23

@Jellykat Yes she does shave, do she can try avoiding that for a while. Thank you for the suggestion.

@ZigZagIntoTheBlue I will check Livi out. Thank you for this!

I have had one very similar that I have had for about 5 months. I left it ages thinking it was deodorant and then didn’t use any for two months and it still didn’t go, itchy as anything. I was prescribed daktarin and daktacort (think you can get these over the counter anyway) and that shifted it. Then it kept returning. I’m now on anti fungal (yuk) tablets for a month and they look and feel so much better.

@KingJulianIsMyName That's useful to know. I didn't know about anti fungal tablets.
