Football / gym kits ?!

Wash them ASAP when everyone gets home - they still seem to smell of wet dog?

Any tips, because I can’t cope with the stench 😭

Halo sports wash

lostinabook · 07/10/2020 21:01

Halo sports wash as above plus dettol laundry cleanser. Plus buy washing machine cleaner and do a maintenance wash!

dementedpixie · 07/10/2020 21:02

Halo sports wash and a capful of zoflora in with the fabric softener (or just in the compartment if you don't use softener)

CMOTDibbler · 07/10/2020 21:05

Halo sports wash! We have lots of cycling/running/PE/swimming kit here and Halo keeps it smelling good and doesn't rot the lycra.

Naticus · 07/10/2020 21:12

Halo sports wash.

Ive not tried it yet, but if you have a B&M near you Fabulosa do a fabric freshener you use instead of softener

Wet dog smell is usually because they aren't being dried/aired properly, then doesn't go when re washed.

isitorisntit · 07/10/2020 21:19

I wish I could smell. Even the bad (real life) smells #covid

k1233 · 07/10/2020 22:10

I put a good whack of lavender disinfectant in my wash. Gets rid of the musty smell in towels etc.

PunishmentSnart · 08/10/2020 09:31

They are definitely dried and aired properly and I regularly clean the machine.

Will try Halo sports wash - can I get it in regular supermarkets?

dementedpixie · 08/10/2020 09:33

I have to go to sainsbury's to get it. Not seen it anywhere else locally

Picklypickles · 08/10/2020 09:43

Dettol Laundry Cleanser is good too, can get in normal supermarkets but it is expensive - £7 a bottle last time I looked!

LaBellina · 08/10/2020 09:43

Sportswash.

Add cleaning vinegar instead of fabric softener to your washing.

marriednotdead · 08/10/2020 09:45

@dementedpixie

Halo sports wash and a capful of zoflora in with the fabric softener (or just in the compartment if you don't use softener)
Totally this combo. Zoflora do a fresh linen scent or similar. DS is a sweaty fitness coach and his laundry used to take multiple washes to get clean until we started this regime.
contrmary · 08/10/2020 09:58

Make sure you are doing a hot wash, my machine goes up to 90C and that seems to do the trick. Frequent washing at 40C or lower allows bacteria to grow in the machine, a hot wash kills them.

dementedpixie · 08/10/2020 09:59

No way would I wash sports stuff at 90⁰C, it would ruin them.

CrimsonCattery · 09/10/2020 08:36

Spray with white vinegar and leave for an hour or so before washing.

Montmartre · 09/10/2020 08:41

Sports kit would melt at 90°!

Normal temp, halo sports wash.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 09/10/2020 10:55

Spray armpits with white vinegar then wash in halo sports wash available at sainsburys, not seen it anywhere else

biddybird · 09/10/2020 11:04

I use Biotex powder. You can soak for an hour or two beforehand if the smell is very bad. Gets rid of stains too.

NorthernBirdAtHeart · 09/10/2020 11:11

I use biocarbonate of soda in the wash, and for stinky footwear, a couple of tea bags in each shoe stops them smelling out the room.

SquirrelFan · 09/10/2020 11:31

Another for Halo.

PurBal · 09/10/2020 11:54

Love halo. Stopped selling in all our local supermarkets (sainsbury's, tesco, asda) but can get it on amazon.

justilou1 · 09/10/2020 12:02

Two tablespoons of bicarb in with your washing powder or straight in with the clothes if you use liquid, then Vinegar in where you would put fabric softener. (About two tablespoonsful) - it’s fabulous

Shxx · 09/10/2020 12:06

Agree with the spray with white vinegar before washing. They need to hang till dry.
This is the less expensive way or you can buy the wash everyone suggested which is good just a little expensive
