My 15 DD is wanting a job over the Christmas Holidays. Apart from babysitting can you help me come up with some suggestions of places she might find a job?

Around here only the chip shops and the hairdressers employ 15 year olds. Oh and delivering the free newspapers. The law limits the times they can work too much. After they are 16 plus a school leaver there are a lot more options.

Honestly? I'd encourage her to spend her short time off school doing something more worthwhile than earning minimum wage. Enjoy a hobby, volunteer, just have a rest from the hard work of school (which is hard, when you're 15). Leave the jobs to those who need them to pay their bills in this tough climate.

I think she might struggle with finding an ‘official’ retail job like a supermarket with her age because payroll would be tricky, and there are limits on how many hours under 16s are allowed to work a week. Might be worth approaching smaller, local businesses..

When I was that age I worked in retail and also the local bingo hall as a runner.

These days there is very little for under 16s but from time to time near me they advertise themselves on the Next Door type apps to do general errands, cleaning, gardening, dog walking etc. No idea if anyone takes them up on it though.
